“We became hieral menaces to protect to the surface from magicite beasts.” It can’t help but notice that they became hieral menaces, which implies that they weren’t originally hieral menaces. I’m almost certain that hieral menaces are people fused with artifacts at this point, but this slso implies that hieral menaces were given a choice in the matter, which is not what I expected.

Inglis, you need to stop being so overprotective of Rani.

Alright, Lavas seems to be a bit too well informed about Lina, and he’s doing the thing where he’s acting a lot nicer to Lina than would normally be warranted by the situation, so I bet he’s the bad guy this volume.

I wonder if Lina’s sister is at all like the protagonist of Neechuu’s big sister.

Does Zain have some sort of short-range teleport ability, or something?

What exactly am I looking at with this illustration after Lina casts Flare Arrow?

And Lavas’s brother, Veisam, is supposedly the one doing all the evil stuff? Yeah, Lavas is definitely the bad guy. Besides his name sounds close to “Lavos.” Coincidence? I think not! (Alright, that last bit is a joke.)

Hmmm… Everything seems does seem to be pointing to Lavas being the bad guy now. However, it seems a bit early in the volume for the bad guy to be revealed. Should I stick to my guns, or switch my prediction to Veisam being the bad guy? Hmmm… I think I’ll wait for more information for now. I’d say guessing that at this point, it’s early enough in the volume that guessing that whichever one Lina decides is the good guy is actually the bad guy is a pretty good bet.

Man, Lina and Gourry have pretty silly-looking outfits in that illustration of them at the door of the bedridden guy’s room.

Alright, yeah, I’m changing my prediction to Veisam being the bad guy.

Part 3:
I have to wonder who this “masked man” is.

I just had another idea: maybe Lavas and Veisam are actually working together.

Dang. It’s looking pretty unlikely that my guess that Veisam is the real bad guy is correct.

Zain is talking about his kingdom being destroyed? Is he from Sairaag, then?

Wonder how Lina’s gonna get out of this one.

I just had a thought that Wizer might be the real bad guy. I can’t exactly change my prediction to Lavas it this point, so let’s change it to Wizer.

Well, it seems like I wasn’t entirely wrong about Veisam being the bad guy, but being the main guy they have to actually fight wasn’t quite what I meant.

Okay, so the blurb is a fake out. I'm on board, let's go.

That Lufas-Benet fight was great, like a proper Dragon Ball Z fight. Crazy power-ups mid fight, not-even-my-final-forms, the moon buffing people's stats, firing off giant beams that narrowly miss only to annihilate random deserted patches of landscape that apparently exist only for that purpose, a few minutes stretching on for dozens of episodes pages. We even had a bifurcated opponent at one point. Lufas with a bit of a different approach than Goku towards defeated opponents though.

“A Restless Heart” That’s an interesting chapter title.

I don’t think “curse mark” is the best term to use for endowed thaumaturgy, since that would imply the item was, y’know, cursed, but whatever.

Alright, I guess they’re called “curse seals” because they’re mostly used on equipment used for enslavement. Makes sense.

Part 4:
I’m guessing that mirror is in some way connected to Grindiana.

Oh, nice. Grindiana is quite pretty.

There are differing levels of beauty in addition to just being gorgeous, you know.

Well, I was right about Menea’s mother being an otherworlder, but she was from America, not Japan.

What the heck are “fraternal half-brother” and “fraternal half-sister” supposed to mean?

Well, if someone was to successfully use thaumaturgy to return to this Earth, how would the people of the other Earth know?

Ah. So, levels refer to how many chakras a person is capable of opening, then?

So, now that Tachibana knows of Ryoma’s existence, might Tachibana and Asuka start making their way over to Ryoma?

I didn’t quite drop this series at the end of the month, but I just kinda got bored of it and didn’t read enough to finish it before it fell off catchup. (Having to constantly mentally correct typos and grammar errors didn’t help, though.) I’ll probably finisn catching up next time this goes on catchup.

@sillymel - Ryoma is very perceptive and it seemed to me from the text that he understood her circumstances. Also, so far he's been attracted to women but doesn't go out of his way to chase them.

He's also left the sisters alone despite their feeling for him because he hadn't fully committed to living his life on this world. So far his character seems pretty good.

“Merciless Hellfire” Well, that’s a really ominous chapter name.

Who’s this other girl in this illustration? She has a pointy ear, so is she some sort of elf? (Or, more likely, a dark elf, given the apparently dark skin tone she has.

I assume the pirates are using “it” and “that” to refer to the dark elf girl in that illustration? Ugh.

Part 7:
I feel like if Ryoma were to rescue the dark elves the pirates captured, that would serve as a crucial bargaining chip in potentially getting the other demihumans to ally with him.

Dang. Seems like the epilogue doesn’t contain Asuka.

That poor maid. I can’t wait to see Count Salzberg get his just deserts.
