@SomeOldGuy - I went through my western SF & fantasy paperback collection earlier this year and decided what to keep, re-read and then donate, donate or (if beat-up and musty) to toss.

I came across a number of them where I thought: nope, I'm probably never going to re-read that, and if I really want to some day I can always get the Kindle edition.

That freed up a lot of space.

@killerx09 yes, I liked volume 3 but it seemed more silly than the first two, aside from the ending.

I enjoy Bakarina but at times it seems I enjoy it in spite of itself. It certainly lacks any sense of direction at this point.

Tearmoon is legit probably my 3rd or 4th favorite series currently being released by J-Novel, depending on where I slot it vs Dendrogram. I've been infected by Mia-itis and can't help myself I suppose.

Generally speaking, attempting to moralize the story without actually taking in account the story is probably doomed to fail. That's always the problem when this discussion comes up.

Somehow talking about this story always seems to loop back into just how bad their age gap is. My question is more of a nuts and bolts kind of question. In a scene where the author is trying to drum up positive emotions should it be translated in a way to remind the readers of cultural taboos and elicit the wrong emotional reaction (even if you can go down a long rabbit hole of logic to justify why it is ok, it will still have the initial negative reaction).

On the first point of it being a fantasy world so it is ok; I don't think what he did is entirely accepted there either. Even though a lot of the female characters (i.e. Rita, Granny Wen, Chloe) seem to immediately accept the situation and think it is fine, a lot of the male characters seem not to. Dale's father and brother both have doubts about if Dale should marry her, and Dale is afraid to tell his cousin of the wedding because he doesn't want to be judged for marrying someone that he introduced as his daughter.

@Seiya It’s only a web novel in Japan, no light novel and the illustrations in the ebook are exclusive to the English version. The web novel on syosetu seems completed, but I’m not sure how many chapters were covered in the English book.

With that I am gladful and that it does not follow the trope of a redeemable idiot. Though, I am fully aware of how the novel ends, I was seeing if others read and enjoyed it?
It's not a series which I've been desperate to actively seek out the raws and the translated chapters of the Web novel version are rather rough. But the manga version is to me enjoyable

My Oldest manga should be a 20+ years old Doraemon: Petualangan Nobita di Negeri Sihir or Doraemon: Nobita's New Great Adventure into the Underworld, Last time I saw it it already lost its cover don't know where it is now tho.

as for LN, with my country being so under the radar of such literature work,
my first physical LN was Penguin Summer its (2014), my 1st JP LN was Seirei Gensouki vol.5 (2016), then my 1st EN was Re:Zero (2016)

IDK, it could be a mix of things, I guess. Like maybe since this is written for a Japanese audience that taking an American viewpoint to it means that I found a lot of things that look like it should disqualify it as a romance (or at least like it is purposely not going there), but in Japanese culture, it wouldn't. Like a 7 YO and a 20 something isn't a strange couple or that a father/daughter isn't an unexpected pairing... that just seems weird to say.

Though in American culture, a child having a crush on a parent is not that unusual in little kids, but it is just treated as a cute phase, not a call to action.

@myskaros I was curious what text-to-speech software they were using. I use the one built into my phone via eReader Prestigo, or so I believe. Its very convenient for me, listen to some of my less favourite books while walking to and from work. Read my favourite books while taking public transportation or during lunch. However, the quality is so so. Maybe somebody could make a recommendation for a better solution?

@DoubleMangekyo I didn't know that website. I have using isbns.net to check for used books. Depending on the books it can be sometimes cheaper to buy them new then used lol. I have gotten goblin slayer books cheap from whsmith.

Only difference of the text is the ruby. I saw the author tweeting that it was tempting to go through it again to do cleanup editing but at the end it was deemed to become endless amount of work so she gave up.

I'm rather surprised by that because this label is definitely targeted for elementary schooler reader. I'm not sure how parents would answer if the a kid asks "what is flower offering?" for some of adult themed topics.

It's very easy to copy the books to a kindle with the free Calibre ebook app. Attach kindle to PC with USB cable, add book to Calibre library, click on "send to device" button, wait a minute, done.

For phones you can just install an app that reads epub files.
