As I'm new here, is there a way to tell if any of the titles translated here are completed works (as in completed in Japan and fully translated here) or not?

@fozzedout you can’t tell from this site you would have to cross reference with other sites.

However the series that have concluded in Japan and also been fully translated on the site are:

My Big Sister Lives in a Fantasy World
        Brave Chronicler (stand alone)
Playing to Win in a VRMMO
        Bluesteel Blasphemer
        Yume Nikki (stand alone)

There are more series that are complete in Japan they just haven’t been fully translated on the site yet like Outbreak Company.

There are also several series that are ongoing or on hiatus that we have caught up to like Mixed Bathing in another Dimension.

Thanks! I'm get started on them first once I've finished Smartphone :)

Actually, could a tag be applied for against the titles? It would make life easier in the future to be able to limit a search for "completed" titles

@fozzedout there are a significant amount of new site features in the works, the indicator you requested has been brought up before but I don’t believe it was made a priority at the time when the new site features were being worked on.

At the moment the top priority I believe is the mobile apps.

              That'd be nice.

Bookwalker JP has the completed tag you can use to find finished LN series. I dunno if the below will work as a permanent link, but yeah.

              Complete Series By Popularity

              https://bookwalker.jp/search/?order=rank&qcat=3&qtag=42&np=0

              Complete Series by Release Order

              https://bookwalker.jp/search/?order=release&qcat=3&qtag=42&np=0

Looking at the list, that GA Bunko release I was curious about is "complete" now.

@rahul-balaggan I'm working on a companion page to J-novel's Wikipedia entry that will answer these questions, mostly. It's still in sandbox stage. I want some sort of framework around the tables.

One additional thing that I'm going to try to pay more attention to is mention of "Let's Be a Novelist", or Syousetsu I believe it is called, in book descriptions. That's a site where people can post the web novel version of their work.

"So Unicorn is Dancing With Maiden"

This Overlap title for instance only has one release from 2014, but in the description it says...

The first overlap paperback collaborated with "Let's be a novelist" the first novel WEB novel Grand Prize "Silver Award" winning work. Book making it by the whole major draft revision!

So maybe I'll see when the last WN portion went up online.

Edit 2: So yeah, this does indeed out pace its counterpart, as it was completed in 2016. So yeah, I'll have to start looking into that.

@terrence Lately, most of the LNs released have been picked up from Syousetsuka ni Narou, so yeah, in those cases the WN version is way beyond what's been released in book format. Arifureta, Infinite Dendrogram, Smartphone, New Life+ and a few other titles from JNC were Narou titles as well. In some cases, after being picked up, the author deletes the WN from Narou though, rendering the WN version inaccessible (thank god there's the waybackmachine)

@paulnamida Watafuta is also from a web novel. Still available, but I think the author may be doing large rewrites.

Tell me what this wizardry is and how to use it (in case I come upon this case with a cancelled LN publication that had a more complete Web LN version)!

Meanwhile, I've been tracking some series that are on both Bookwalker and Syousetsu, and I'm posting the links up on my Twitter thread. Maybe I'll transfer those someday here if I get enough interesting ones for cancelled series like the above.

@terrence well, first you'd need to find the original URL for the novel in syousetsu, running the title in japanese followed by syosetsu in google should find it most of the time, of course, it'll lead you to a blank page saying that the novel was deleted (all in japanese of course) but the URL is still the original one the novel had, so running that URL through:

                          http://archive.org/web/

should get you previous versions of that page before it was deleted.

By the way, another WN site that gets its novels picked up aside from Syousetsuka is Kakuyomu

So I've started collecting Syosetu links for stuff that's on Bookwalker that may be cancelled series, but may be finished / ongoing on Syosetu.

                                https://twitter.com/GRNKRBY/status/980594465881640960?s=20

One interesting one is this Space Opera that only got two volumes released on Bookwalker, the last being in 2014, but it has over 200 parts on Syosetu including the latest in December of 2017.

Tarot card game (volume 1 pictured) is getting a second novel. I don't know if it's the final volume, but it is nice to see something like a death game series get an additional volume (that would be an awful genre to have an cancelation in; have to try and make your own answer to the mystery if that happened).

Not too many completed Japanese language series that are notable lately (at least since Sister New Devil).

This one has eight volumes, and is complete.

This last one is labeled "Complete" on Bookwalker, and it looks fun.

If you look on Novel Updates(assuming a fan is translating it) usually it has on the left side the number of volumes and if its complete or not.

Definitely could be a helpful English resource (especially if you are used to referring to certain series by their Romaji title). But sometimes that site is a bit inaccurate / slow to update. Just as an example, Noble Witches is listed as having 7 volumes and ongoing. This series is complete at 8 volumes.

I don't think novel updates even has 美人上司とダンジョンに潜るのは残業ですか?(Attacking the Dungeon with my Beautiful Boss is Overtime Work), which has 3 volumes currently. I guess because no one is translating it. =[

A lot of series are concluding soon. I'll highlight a few that I'm keeping tabs on:

                                          • This one I'll probably rec if I haven't made a formal thread yet. SB Creative series. Volume 4 will be the final volume.

"Megami no Yuusha wo Taosu Gesu na Houhou"

                                          • This is a Kadokawa series. Complete at 5 volumes.

                                          "Ryuugoroshi no Sugosuhibi"

                                          • This is one of the longer recently completed works that isn't super high profile. Label is Hero Bunko. It has 11 volumes.

Rest of the concluding / recently concluded series can be found here:

Hybrid x Heart, World Break, and Hekiyou Gakuen Seitokai Mokushiroku are some of the higher profile completions that are semi-recent.
