Introducing the Humble MangaGamer and Friends Bundle! Get Higurashi When They Cry Hou, Go! Go! Visit Japan!, and more.

Decent bundle if you're looking for Visual Novels, and haven't read / participated with Higarushi. 10 bucks gets you the whole group. Fair warning, some of these games are censored if that matters to you.

Depends on the novel / Adventure Game you get. All involve lots of reading.

Some have choices that determine the ending you get. These can range from choices that affect whether you live or die (some games have lots of bad endings), to who your character pairs up with romantically.

Some are Kinetic though, no choices, just reading with pictures.

And still others, like Phoenix Wright, Ghost Trick, or 9 Hours 9 Persons 9 Doors, involve gameplay in the form of puzzles or detective work. These are called Adventure games.

STEAM is your best bet if you're on PC. Zero Escape Collection (999 + VLR), Muv-Luv, Umineko, Root Double, Steins;Gate, Chaos;Child, and the Danganronpa series are safe bets I would say. Banshee's Last Cry is a very good starter one if you have an IOS device.

Well, these few on Humble are a decent start, though I think Higarushi is Kinetic, as may be Eden? The whole bundle is 12 games for 10 bucks (these would normally be like 150 dollars if bought separately). Just follow the Twitter link up top and it'll send you to the bundle.

Higurashi might be kinetic but it's a top tier mystery. Is the steam version better than the original by MangaGamer?? Their translation quality was quite clunky back then.

Higurashi and *eden are worth it alone.

If My Heart Has Wings is censored and edited.

                    Princess Evangeline is okay.

@paulnamida Afaik their new translation is at least an improvement, though when I played it there were a few parts where I thought that the translation could still be better.
