Apk won't install without Google play account

I reset my phone to run without logging into Google to get around a weird bug involving Smart Lock on Samsung.
I backed up the recent apk for J- novel Club, but it won't install.
Does it need Google to run?
Are there any versions of the app that don't?
It's the only app I really miss besides the one I've been trying to troubleshoot.
Such a simple app with a login shouldn't require the usual background services, I thought..?

The site allows to login with a Google account so most likely the app has some code to allow that, too?

@terabyte Yeah but I'm not using the Google account.
I just need to be able to login with the email and password.
It's not even letting me install the apk...
Samsung is a mess. :(

Even if you don't use the feature, the code for it (libraries, dependencies, etc) is still there unfortunately. 😕
