an oasis in a stressed-out time
-
It isn't 'news' that many, many, folks are fatigued by the ongoing pandemic. Around the Thanksgiving holiday (late November in the USA) my workplace announced plans for returning to the office in January, only to rescind those plans days later in light of the Omicron variant surge. I can't say that I was crushed as January commuting in Chicago sucks, but, it did make me realize that I'm rapidly approaching the beginning of my third year working from home, social distancing, etc. This realization made me take stock of the changes I endured and how I coped. I noticed my attention span is diminished. I find it more difficult than I remember to 'stay on task' at work, or devote as much time to hobbies, or even watching TV. I literally can't muster the desire to start reading an entire book, or binge anything on Netflix (not that that is a goal)
Which brings me to my point. JNC has become my oasis. Bite-sized chunks of literature than I can finish in twenty minutes or so. Something to look forward to on a Monday. I'm not following as many series as I had in days past, but still, I get mountains of enjoyment from these serialized bits.
I also enjoy being able to comment and follow discussions in the forum. With the exception of AoB, comments also almost always digestible within my diminished attention span.
So, my feedback for the JNC team and members on the various fora. Thanks! I'm not looking forward to year three of relative isolation, but I'm confident that I can maintain my sanity. -
I can relate, except "work from home" hasn't been a change for me; I thought about getting a shirt that said something like "socially distant for decades". Or maybe "remember when social distancing was a symptom rather than a goal?"
Concentration issues are exasperated by this; starting out with issues as a kid aren't helped by advancing age.
But trying to keep track of multiple stories help...
