I know I'm not the only one here reading this title, so...

Chiho's "reward" was exactly what I thought it would be, but just what the heck happened to Maou? Will it effect his ability to finish the fight? And how on the heck is he going to hide what happened from Emi? There's going to be some serous fallout from this, and we have to wait until February to find your what it is.

My gut is telling me volume 21 will be the last or next to last volume.

@paul-nebeling - I enjoyed the anime when I watched it. Is the LN worth reading from volume 1 (that is, a lot of extra detail), or from whatever volume comes after the anime?

Volume 21 is indeed the last volume as you suspected. Will not be doing any spoilers.
I would comment more about this volume but it has been a while since I read the Raws and I have not bothered to order it in English yet.

          Author of Praetor's Blood.

@harmlessdave Absolutely with reading the LN. In addition to additional details, you get lots of things that there's no way the anime, even with a second season coming, could possibly cover. Truth be told,

@custodes It's been a good trip. I hope the author ties up the biggest loose end. Although the synopsis for the next volume hints at it, I'm not counting that chicken until it's fully grown, never mind hatched.

I've got the feeling the ending is going to be a touch bittersweet and maybe a bit like Paying to Win.
