I know a bunch of us have enjoyed the Light novel, so now that the first episode of the anime has been released I would like to hear what peoples' thought are on it.

My thoughts on the first episode:

So far I think it is a decent adaptation. My impression is that they seem to be leaning more into the character relationships rather than the horror elements, but since I go into this series because of the characters I'm fine with that. I rather like to OP too.

Haven’t gotten to the books yet, but given one episode so far, I’m enjoying the anime.

I'll have to check this out later. I read the first volume last time it was on catchup, but it didn't really land for me. I think the problem is that I know nothing about Japanese creepy pasta, and don't have strong feelings about creepy pasta to begin with. Maybe it will be more compelling to actually see the monsters.

I read this series for the characters. I don't care at all about the monster part; it doesn't matter to me whether they're fighting creepypasta, yokai, or Celtic fae. I think if monster part isn't clicking for you, maybe reframing in your mind as the stage which brings the characters relationships together (like the framing device of a play) may help you get into the series. That's what I do anyway

That first episode was overall pretty good, but the opening and the fight against the Kunikuni make me kind of worry about what's to come. Well, that kind of Lovecraftian horror is rarely a good fit for visual mediums so it was to be expected but I hope they can at least make it somewhat unnerving.

Really enjoyed the first episode and this is one of the series where if I don't understand something, I can search for it online and behold, new information (which is really cool for me).

Opening and Ending songs are so lit, the way the VAs did the characters were truly spot on from how I imagined it. Can't wait for the next episode.

Btw, Blu-ray information is already available, I'm buying the set off Animate.

I'm a little curious how that made it past QC. It's like they spend all this time making sure all the background art is so pretty, and then suddenly make the animated models really weird for a scene. Like the limbs are all lanky, the shading is a bit flat and they didn't put details into it. Luckily it didn't happen again, but it reminds me of the horses from By the Grace of the Gods. Talk about getting suddenly jerked out of whatever's happening.

@db0ssman Yeah, I also don't really understand why they used CG at all. It's not a difficult scene, I can understand using CG for something like the yokai or an anime like So I'm a spider where the MC has 8 legs, but here it just 2 humans walking.

While the OP and ED were indeed great, they didn't seem to fit the show, to me. The songs are upbeat and cheery when the story is all edgy... a little bit of a disconnect. :-)

I have read the novels, and while I don't know anything about Japanese creepypasta, the story explained enough of it that I didn't really need to. The anime is missing a few things from the novel, but it's been enjoyable so far.

@pcj Yeah, the Op/Ed are kind of off. Though the Op does make it rather clear that they aren't going to shy away from the yuri at all.

Two episodes in and I am rather happy with it. I was somewhat concerned that they wouldn't be able to bring any of the rather creepy elements into the story (because budget) but I'm more optimistic now. Focusing more on the characters sooner isn't a bad idea at all either, so if they can keep things balanced and not let things get rushed I think it'll be just fine.

That second episode was kind of a lot down, it wasn't bad but it felt somewhat rush and the lack of explanation on the monster was also more of an issue than in ep1.
Well, ep2 covered a kinda meh arc so it's not that bad, but I hope later arcs get more time.

2nd ep was very interesting, especially those Po po po sounds in the background if you listen to it closely during the Hasshaku-sama scene. Also, they made Abarato hot, erm, quite decent here (vs the manga).

As for the OP and ED songs, the translated lyrics do fit the inner struggles of the main characters, I know Funimation doesn't have those translated but if you get the chance to watch the Ani-One subbed version, you'll see what I mean.

Speaking of which, there's a mistranslation Funi did in one of the scenes, you'll know what it is, especially if you started with the novels.

And also, next episode is an anime original, so that's something I'm looking forward to
