@myskaros Any notable colored pics that could have triggered this?

I'm not familiar with the story so I don't know the 'actual' age of the character, but if Amazon is going after young-looking characters that are naked, #2 fits the bill.

@db0ssman It comes down to interpretations of laws.

In Japan, there is a differentiation between depictions of actual people, or "non-existent persons". A picture of a naked 14-year-old is child pornography, while a drawing of a naked 14-year-old character isn't.

The difference can explain the number of non-human characters in stories; a Grasswalker (characters used in How NOT to Summon a Demon Lord) is non-human, and "exempt". Rokuko in Lazy Dungeon Master is not a human, even though she looks like it, and, per statements in the confrontation with [Flame Caverns], about 10-12 years old.

Outside of Japan... that exemption doesn't exist. Drawings are just as bad as photographs. Manga like High School DxD depict high-school aged characters (under 18), so it's technically child pornography (CP) in some jurisdictions, even though it carries an "Older Teen" rating, and all of the female characters are "non-human" by the time they're "exposed".

I think I should stop rambling now. Suffice it to say that CP laws are so vague in general that, corporately, Amazon isn't really "virtue signaling" here.

I know someone facing CP charges right now, because someone else sent a naked selfie to him. Under the local laws, the person who took the selfie is guilty of child exploitation and child pornography, sending it to him adds the charge of TRAFFICKING in CP, and anyone who handles his phone after it arrives, even if the picture was "deleted", is guilty of possession of CP. The only thing that matters is whether the person in the selfie was under 18 when it was taken.

And it's still CP in this jurisdiction if the "selfie" was a sketch, rather than a photograph.

                  "But the blueprints..."

@Khaos She's also a drawing, not a real person. Don't bother trying to apply logic to why something's being removed, especially when Amazon themselves won't be clear about it.

I assume it is more the cover of Fake Fake Princess as she looks to be nude.

Hmmm, does Jeff Bezzos still ahve his public email for complaints?

Just like Google with Play submissions and YouTube takedowns.

Perhaps JNC needs to switch to censored versions of any risque art in versions of titles for the Kindle store to be safe. Better to have something in the store than nothing at all since otherwise many potential readers will never know that the titles exist.

JNC could always ask the publishers for permission to put the original versions of the art on web pages for the people who bought titles from Amazon.

Rest assured, we are internally discussing potential solutions and consulting with our Japanese publisher partners about the ongoing situation.

I would say the first step is to place ads explaining the premiums at the front of all books. As it stands now I suspect many readers who purchase on Amazon don't actually know premiums are even a thing.

There is no reason to be considerate of their business if they cannot be considerate of your business. These situations reveal pretty clearly that you are not really business partners... act accordingly.

Considering how much revenue Amazon purchases bring us and the fact that they haven't banned us altogether, we do still need to follow all their rules.

@Jon-Mitchell Bold of you to assume they stopped that shit in the 90s. All that changed was swapping out the D&D panic.

Oh, I have no delusions that this sh#t stopped in the 90's (that's just when I was a student so it was 'front of mind') Not too long ago a similar group opened a "ARK History 'museum'"...and another group they won a SCOTUS case that allows for the diversion of tax dollars to private/religious schools...how much do you want to bet that this was a concerted effort (the complaints) that someone considered part of their 'ministry'...makes me livid

                                  I read banned books

No, that is pretty bad logic. This is all about "female objectification" -- some feminist is pissed off. The tell is the fact that none of the feminist oriented books or Yuri content was taken down. If somebody was doing this for traditional religious reason those would be targets of the highest order. Instead we are dealing with people who are subscribing to the new religion of wokeness.

It's hard to follow rules that are made in absolute secrecy and changed arbitrarily as the mood strikes.

@Jason-Maranto It's likely just the usual puritanism, apparently what's happening now with LN has been happening for a long time with erotica novel, including LGBT ones. The LN ban probably just target lewd pictures, which in the overwhelming majority of LN involve women rather than men.

I guess you really haven't been paying attention to all the hubbub about "female objectification" and "the male gaze". Modern feminists are every bit as puritanical as any other religious zealot. The only type of sex they are OK with is sex between women for female consumption. Heterosexual sex positivism is a bygone concept -- and doubly so if the female being objectified isn't fat and/or ugly (blue hair optional).
