My pre-order was cancelled and I can no longer find the book listed on Amazon. Is there any reason for this?

For those of you who may have preordered My Next Life as a Villainess Volume 6 from Amazon, @AmazonKDP
arbitrarily decided to block the book from publishing and cancelled almost 1000 preorders today, we apologize for the inconvenience. We'll try to upload again on the sale date.
You may have noticed, but this has been going on for the past 2 months, starting with a block of How NOT to Summon Volumes 6 and 10, and currently Arifureta 6, Seirei Gensouki 4, Greatest Magicmaster 5, Infinite Stratos 8 and Lazy Dungeon Master 2 are blocked.
Amazon content review refuses to communicate any reason for these blocks, and multiple, sometimes daily contacts are producing little results... We will keep trying to find some way to get them to fix these issues or at least acknowledge them.
Considering the timing of these issues, I suspect it is due to an over-reliance on automated content flagging systems and lack of competent human resources, but that is no excuse for refusing to fix errors when they happen.

          Hello,

J-Novel Club has been having issues with Amazon's system automatically removing their books, and Amazon hasn’t been able to resolve the issue or explain why it's happening. They are still trying to get them to fix it, but unfortunately there isn't much that can do on our end except continue to bug them about it.

You can follow the J-Novel Club twitter for more information:

Sorry but J-Novel Club does not publicly comment on any potential licensing decision or acquisitions.

@Wellwisher @Rahul-Balaggan Thank you so much for the explanation. Sorry, I don't use twitter much so I missed the mention.

              Other prohibited content
As a bookseller, we provide our customers with access to a variety of viewpoints, including books that some customers may find objectionable. That said, we reserve the right not to sell certain content, such as pornography or other inappropriate material.

That comes from the KDP content guidelines, and so it is very possible that Lazy Dungeon Master 2 got hit for violating that given one of the pictures is pretty hentai it might have been reported by someone. If How NOT to Summon is anything like the anime, then it might have been hit for similar reasons. I'm not sure about the other ones, though.

I could be completely off the mark here but when moving around on Amazon, there seems to be a problem with some of the books, I'm looking at volume 1 of Villianess, getting to the physical copy of the first volume, which takes some doing, looks correct then it shows kindle and comiXology, clicking that then going back to the paperback leads to the manga version of volume 1. Is it possible that since there is both a light novel and manga version being done by two different companies that Seven Seas was looking to get the volume on there and now Amazon is being stupid that who is the real volume 6?

@db0ssman Under laws in most, if not all, US states, depiction of nudity of "under age" persons is child pornography.

"Under age" is "under 18" in most of those laws, so any depiction of naked high school students, even those considered "adults" in the country of origin, is going to trip alarms. Especially when it's on the cover, or prominent in the color pages.

But I cannot think what would trip alarms in Bakarina...

@SomeOldGuy I'm going to put the description of the picture I'm talking about in a spoiler since there are certainly going to be people that don't want to read it, since it is kind of graphic.

                    spoiler

As kind of a gimmick, Lazy Dungeon Master likes taking quotes out of context and then making super etchi pictures out of it for the front matter. In #2 it probably went too far even for Amazon to be able to feign that it is not pornographic in nature. So, this isn't just like a case of 'oh my a naked anime character that happens to be underage by prudish American standards'. Given the sheer number of manga/LN series that would be pretty problematic if it had real people in it (eg Negima!), I don't think it is the standard to just block stuff that has fan-service in it. This case is pretty on-the-nose pornographic, though.

This is why I have tried to move all of my purchases off of Amazon.

There is still straight up pprn novels vwing sold with cover images even worse than the ones that are described in this thread.

@db0ssman Mayhaps the biggest problem is the fact that the problematic color illustrations are at the front of the book. You know, the part Amazon shows you when you click on the "Take a look inside!" link. Moving the color insert to the back would "fix" that, but also be a problem with matching the original Japanese version.

I wonder if Amazon blocks the originals of these books on Amazon Japan?

Nope. In fact, if you look at the physical version of LDM volume 2, the "problematic image" is one of the preview images.

                            Just curious.

Does Bakarina Vol 6 actually have an illustration or content that can cause this?

Bakarina vol 6 is clean. It has no illustration that depicts anything sexual.

@lighthawk96 Are you not a Premium member? It should be cheaper for you to just get the $6 premium ebook straight from JNC.

@lighthawk96 While it is convenient to "one click" a book to your kindle, after Calibre is set up, it's pretty fast to have it convert and upload epubs to Amazon to manage them on kindle devices. The only exception I've encountered is when the epub is bigger than Amazon's email limit... I only own one book like that, so far... Bakarina 5.

If you want a simple way with calibre, you can just convert the epub to mobi (with calibre), attach your Kindle to your computer, and use the 'send to device' option with a right-click (in calibre). It will add the Mobi on your Kindle and the cover and all that will work just fine (though if you try to just manually add the mobi to your Kindle using the system file folders, it won't display the cover because reasons, I guess).

@db0ssman Yes, that is what I started with. And it also works well with just about any device that can handle various flavors of ebooks.

But, when my library first exceeded the capacity of my 4GB Kindle, I decided to push things off on the existing Amazon content management. Oh, no space? Silently replace something that hasn't been accessed in a while, because it can always be brought back later.

I convert to both AZW3 and mobi, because mobi works better for uploading to Amazon, and AZW3 works better for direct loading to it by Calibre.
