Outside the popular fantasy/isekai, we do have a lack of almost everything else (some more than another).
What are the type of works you wanna see the most aside fantasy?

Since I wanna be through as much as I can, I came up with all kind of genres with examples but I went past the poll limitation lol.
Anyway, you can choose more than one type or even mention another genre or type of works I forgot to include you think it's lacking:

      • Teen Drama/Coming of age (Seishun Buta/Kokoro Connect/Sakurasou/Oregairu)
      • Romantic Comedy (Chuunibyou/Netoge no Yome wa Onnanoko ja Nai to Omotta?)
      • Harem-focused Romantic Comedy (Shomin Sample/Noucome/Oreshura)
      • Romance with drama subplot (Shinonome Yuuko Series)
      • Tragedy/Melodramatic Romance (I Want to Eat Your Pancreas/My Tomorrow, Your Yesterday/You Shine in the Moonlit Night/Three Days of Happiness)
      • Female-oriented Romance (Hana-iro Hatsukoi)
      • Hobby/Sport-focus slice of life or drama (Kiniro Quartet!/Kaze ga Tsuyoku Fuiteiru)
      • Detective Mystery (Bougyaku Tantei Series)
      • Unconventional Mystery (Disco Detective Wednesday)
      • Whodunit mixed with Teen drama (Hyouka/Seitokai Tantei Kirika)
      • Occupational/low-stake Mystery (Biblia Koshodou no Jiken Techou/Sakurako-san no Ashimoto ni wa Shitai ga Umatteiru)
      • Horror-Mystery (Shiki/Higurashi Series)
      • Psychological-Mystery (Kamisu Reina Series/Satougashi no Dangan wa Uchinukenai: A Lollypop or A Bullet)
      • Other Mystery/Crime mystery (The Snow White Murder Case/Kamisama no Memochou/Perfect Insider)
      • Spy (Joker Game)
      • Death Game (The Incite Mill/Satsuriku Gēmu no Yakata)
      • Ghost Horror (Phenomeno)
      • Psyhcological Horror (Goth)
      • Lovecraftian Horror (Saya No Uta)
      • Slasher (Lesson of The Evil)
      • Dystopia (Shinsekai Yori/No. 6)
      • Psychological Drama (Welcome to N.H.K)
      • BL
      • Yuri (Adachi to Shimamura)
      • Space opera (LOGH)
      • Hard science fiction (Last and First Idol)
      • Cyperpunk (Despera)

Honestly, I'd love to have more of most of these except maybe hard sci-fi and certain horror sub-genres that don't do anything for me. As long as the story sounds interesting, I'll give it a try.

        • How about action dramas, such as 86, Fate/Zero, Durarara, Marginal Operation, Seraph of the End: Guren Ichinose or The Isolator?

        • Mecha like Knights and Magic, Bokurano Alternative, Full Metal Panic, and All You Need is Kill is another genre.

        • How about historical? Though I guess many could go under another category instead like mystery (Kusuriya no Hitorigoto), romance (Saiunkoku Monogatari), or harem rom-com (Oda Nobuna no Yabou).

Some are kinda hard to pin to one genre, such as Baccano. There's action, drama, supernatural, horror, and it's historical since it takes place in the 1930s.

I want more rom-coms! I don't really mind the setting though. I'm fond of school-life stories and would like some of the series mentioned, but fantasy ones would do as well.

Which makes hate that Shogakukan doesn't do digital.

I'd like to see an increase in rom-com as well. Don't really care whether it's harem or not. I'll read either. Likewise, don't care if it's based IRL or fantasy. Only needs to be something I can laugh at with a good story. On that note, I'm not really a fan of the recent increase in 4 panel comic type stories because (even if they maintain a central cast and plot) they feel too segmented.

One of LNs characteristics is genre mashing so it's true that it's difficult to attribute to one genre or another.
But you can, at least, attribute it to the most prominent genre of them all (or mix like Romcom or Whodunit mixed with Teen drama). (like when I thought of historical stuff in LNs, they are either fantasy action or female-oriented romance with a few exceptions)

So, yeah, a lot of other titles you mentioned can be attribute to other genres above too.
Well, if you are gonna define Mecha as what works like Gundum and Eva did then All You Need is Kill ain't that much of mecha (Tragedy/SciFi/<Groundhog day trope?>)

O, well, I guess we are just lacking in very everything but fantasy lol. (like Game-style fantasy, slice-of-life fantasy or OP-MC-explore-the-world isekai, comedy-focus isekai/fantasy, tragedy fantasy, romance fantasy, etc)
Maybe, political warfare and occupational fantasy don't have much of representatives but that's it, I guess.

Actually, majority of big romcoms are published by Kadokawa (especially by Fujimi, MF Bunko J and Enterbrain)

@bloodygaikotsu They have most of the market of course.

Still, I haven't read the official books for Oregairu because the lack of digital. I'm also waiting for JNC to start dealing with Softbank so that I can request annoy for Oreshura and some others.

                      I want:

                      Love Triangle
                      Mystery
                      Drama
                      Death Game
                      Survival
                      Horror (unlikely?)
                      Horror Comedy
                      Space Opera
                      Mecha
                      After-school Club Comedy
                      Work Comedy
                      Retired Hero Slowlife
                      Exercise
                      Tragedy

I'm glad we're getting food novels now. Gives me more hope for building up other subgenre (at least in the fantasy genre). =)

There's a lot of Demon-Lord series though, and not all of those are Isekai...

If there's one type of story I want to see more of, it's family stories. Stuff like parenting, adoption, sibling bonding that isn't explicitly incestual (some brocon/siscon is fine)... If they're in a fantasy/isekai context, that can be interesting, and while this type of story works well as a slice-of-life there can be more adventurous or dramatic takes on this theme too.

So far, though, the examples of such here on JNC are either more secondary to the plot (e.g. Foll from Elf Bride) or... well, For My Daughter after vol. 3...

When you "Work Comedy", you mean something like what?

In the manga space, I've liked:

                                Wagnaria
                                Wotakoi
                                Servant x Service

There's others, I just can't think of them off the top of my head. Work comedy / office comedy is always fun because it often has a mix of romance in there too, and some laugh out loud personalities. =)

For LN / Novels, I'd like more looks at both fantasy oriented and non-fantasy work comedies, like:

                                Romance Work Comedy

                                Yokai Work Comedy

The one about the dad that works in Death Game Administration as his dayjob (the manga just got a volume 2).

And of course, the Beautiful Boss Dungeon Hunting novel that has our heroes working at the office as the setup for them to go on dungeon hunts (the dungeon is just a one day a week excursion they do that becomes the focus of the story because... Well, dungeons are exciting; but they're always referencing who they are in the office, and going back there to start / end most chapter segments).

There's a few "Working at a Guild" or "Working for an agency that hires heroes" office / work life stories too that could work if we need an Isekai / Fantasy label to get them.

I did think of smth like Servant x Service or working but didn't expect "Wotakoi" to be among them (I do classify it as these romcoms that are more comedy than romance like many other pixiv romcoms)

But, i wondered if LNs have smth like that.
Yeah, you won't find smth like that unless it's one of Kadokawa's older audience lines (Novel Zero<LN> and Media Work bunk <The new medium>)

The one about the dad that works in Death Game Administration as his dayjob (the manga just got a volume 2).

just remembered of Death Game comedy manga you mean like to take a look at:
Asato Mizu's Isekai Death Game ni Tensou sarete tsurai (Aharen-san wa Hakarenai/Denkigai no Honya-san mangaka)
Well, it's got nothing to do with mystery or thriller but won't say a thing unless you wanna take a look at it yourself. (since u hate spoilers)

Yeah, a lot of it is that bridge the gap between novel and light novel type stuff.

I'll keep looking and see if there's any more like that in the strictly LN labels. I mean, there are a few restaurant and bar focused LN, but most of those aren't office rom com (they tend to have more fantasy focus or a drama focus).

Well, tbh, these days, I find more stuff I want among the new medium.
Like most of new LN works I am interested in are romcoms (with a few exceptions.)

I wonder if we can see more of them cross the ocean (Wonder if Pancreas is selling enough for that...)

Probably, cuz I lean more towards older-style LNs which now are more represented in the new medium. (since I ain't much of a gamer..maybe?)
Even Boogiepop (one of first official LN) is getting re-released as one of those new medium works.

From the list in the OP, I'd be down for more rom-com, harem or otherwise, any setting.
