I was checking Crunchyroll’s super fan pack FAQ page because I’m interested in upgrading when it becomes available for me in the future. The major reasoning behind doing so is because j-novel was part of the package. However, when checking the FAQ page yesterday to see if there were any updates on a full launch, I noticed that j-novel club was absent.

Details are sparse (and probably always will be), but based on what we've heard from Sam, it would appear that the deal fell apart.

          @jumballi

I'm disappointed. I was putting off subscribing to crunchroll/VRV (I tolerated the commercials, somewhat) I dove in w/ the superfan pack specifically because of JNC participation and to show support for JNC's reaching for larger audience (I planned on figuring out the overlapping memberships once everything became official)

now I have to figure out if I cancel my superfan pack/downgrade to a 'lower' membership of crunchyroll/vrv or just abandon it altogether (and go back to commercials....ick)

the ending of the funimation/crunchyroll collaboration on VRV is also coming to an end ---what the hell Cruncyroll??

anyone know if funimation now will still be feeding Hulu?

          I read banned books

That one isn't entirely on Crunchyroll. Sony Pictures Television bought Funimation, and AT&T bought Crunchyroll. The writing was on the wall.

@jon-mitchell every indication I’ve seen leads to believe Funimation will continue to provide Hulu their most popular weekly subtitled simulcasts, and then give them the English dub after it is released on blu ray. Crunchyroll also does this to a lesser extent, though they haven’t done any this season for some reason.

As for the Super Fan Pack, I was disappointed that I won’t be able to sign up for it any time soon since I already have an account, but ever since the Funimation ordeal and JNC apparently (still no official word yet) dropping out, I can’t see myself upgrading. I enjoy my current account of CR and JNC already, so I’m good.

Glad to hear about Funimation/Hulu (My Hero Academia is a favorite for my daughter and I )

Hulu isn't available in Canada, though, but Funimation does have their own streaming service. It just means that now if you want to watch all the anime, you'll need to sign up for:

                  1. Crunchyroll
                  2. Netflix
                  3. Funimation Now
                  4. Amazon Prime Video (they do appear to still be licensing stuff)
                  5. HiDive

                  Estimated monthly cost (monthly payments):

                  CR: 6.95
                  Netflix: 10.99
                  Funi: 5.99
                  Prime: 8.99
                  Hidive: 4.99
                  Total: $37.91 USD per month

Yikes. Of course, you're probably not missing much if you subscribe to just CR and Funi, and many people already have Netflix and Prime for other reasons. Sorry, HiDive!

@guspaz Once HiDive gets fully integrated into VRV though, you can do the premium subscription there to cover both them and Crunchyroll for 9.99 a month (effectively ~$2 off a month). I personally like to use VRV because of its offline viewing functionality, so it's a solid deal for me.

@stardf29 Gus lives in Canada, and just like Hulu, it is unavailable there.

So JNC isn’t available to you anymore or is it still there. I was just pointing out that JNC isn’t in the FAQ page anymore and I got confused.

I have a JNC account but was looking to consolidate. Also I thought that the partnership with Crunchyroll would foretell jnc’s growth into becoming a bigger player in the overall marketplace. I’m not really inconvenienced just disappointed

                              Same.

I won't be getting any anime subs for the foreseeable future though. Just stick to Crunchyroll free with ads and renting the occasional disc from my library.

                                  from crunchyroll FAQ:
Why is J-Novel Club not part of the Super Fan Pack?

In coordination with J-Novel Club, the company was announced as an initial launch partner in the Super Fan Pack during Crunchyroll Expo 2018. However, after further discussions, J-Novel Club has decided not to continue its participation in the Super Fan Pack.

I'm sure it was the right decision for JNC. From what I saw that deal didn't offer much for JNC beyond the possibility of greater exposure... which admittedly is a big deal, but they already get plenty of exposure through recommendations via the booksellers (Amazon, Kobo, Google Play, etc.).

As an official statement, J-Novel Club and Crunchyroll could not agree on certain aspects of the relationship, therefore we mutually decided that us being included in the Super Fan Pack was not in either of our interests.
