I might be in the minority of the light novel readership (which isn’t good for business decisions) but I’d really like more light novels aimed at women and/or have female main characters. Unfortunately since I don’t read Japanese very well yet I don’t know of many light novel titles like that. I have absolutely nothing against harems but it gets tiring when there are so many harem light novels translated into English and not many in other genres.

I’ve really wanted to read the Migawari Hakushaku no Bouken series because it was about a girl protagonist, it was a more unusual pseudo-European historical setting, and it was a romance/adventure series. However I don’t know how realistic it is for that to be licensed since it’s published by
        Kadokawa.

I’m really glad J-Novel Club is picking up so many titles. There are several I hadn’t heard of before and they look interesting.

That description makes it sound like a cross between Oregairu and TWGOK, is that at all accurate?

I'm not the first one to say this, but can we have more female-friendly titles?

Also more queer-friendly titles too. I know that a lot of Yuri and Yaoi titles mostly fetishes queer people for straight people, but there is still some good stuff out there. There are only four fan-translated chapters out, but so far "Autodoll" seems like a good example. Also "Weisselillie" and "Maid in Iseki" (but I think those are only web novels, so not sure if getting those would be possible).

I already put it in the survey but Hybrid x Heart Magis Academy Ataraxia would make me real happy, mostly because I've tried to read the current fan-translation and it feels really hard to get through with awkward prose and flow. I sure hope lewdness isn't a barrier to something getting picked up!

The lewdness isn't but Kadokawa is.

Yeah. I dream of the day they start getting a few Kadokawa properties Yen Press didn't get. Campione, Date a Live, and more. :)

@hakomari I'm very new to LNs in general and J-novel in particular, is Kadokawa a publisher that is hard to work with? I know about the Kemono Friends fiasco.

Kadokawa owns 51% of Yen Press. So most of their properties go to Yen Press. It's technically possible to get one if Yen turns it down, but it's only really happened for a manga or two, no LN.

They have ownership of Bookwalker too, right? That's another venue to request their LNs from.

Yup. They owned Bookwalker first, started bringing that West more, and picked up Yen Press stock.

Well shameless plug since I forgot I never requested this here outside of the light novel speculation thread.
I was a Sword when I Reincarnated(Tensei Shitara Kendeshita) Some call it "Sword dad"
                              alt text
As some of you can tell it has the same illustrator as "Unbreakable Machine Doll"
Hoping you guys pick this up as I know I'm not the only one that likes this.
Its literally an JRPG esque adventure story about a guy that has his soul shoved into a sword, and a former slave catgirl named fran on her quest to succeed her parents in their failed attempt at "evolving" Complete with heartwarming moments, and the occasional video game reference.

JP Novel Publisher is GC Novels and also has an ongoing manga adapting it.
It currently has 3 novels released.

For anyone that wants a feel for it:

As odd as the premise is, its a surprisingly fun read without any of the more raunchy aspects some isekais typically have.
Currently https://dijoninpieces.wordpress.com/i-was-a-sword-when-i-reincarnated/ just finished the first volume(oddly enough translated from Korean because I guess its already licensed there)
Manga can be found here as well: https://wakga.wordpress.com/other/

Also would like to thank you guys for picking up demonlord although I suspect part of the reason is because Seven seas picked up the manga. Looking forward to reading it this December.

@john-collins Ah I’ve heard of that LN. My roommate in college reads the manga and really enjoys it. Although we already have a ton of isekai, I would like that addition.
Edit: However, I’m not sure linking to unofficial manga/LN sites is the smartest idea imo. They might be considered pirate sites.

@John-Collins I've heard good things about that LN. I wouldn't mind reading it. It's kind of a dual protagonist thing, he as the sword and she as the wielder, right?

                                    Correct.

I definitely support this title as well - I'm following the web novel personally. It has that UchiMusume charm but a lot more action over slice of life, and the lack of any kind of romance is kind of refreshing (cuz he's a sword and she scares everyone else) compared to most other LNs. Like, no drama, no wacky hijinks, which there's nothing wrong with those, it's simply a nice break from them.

Whoever said nothing's impossible never tried slamming a revolving door.

please pick this one Tsukurareshi Inochi to Kirei na Sekai. This a heartwarming novel. It has already 4 volumes which the 4th vol was release last September.
