To my knowledge Kodansha holds the license as well.

Its currently being translated by https://isekaicyborg.wordpress.com/
however his early translations for the novels are really rough around the edges.
His manga translations for the series are far more passable however.

Its basically your typical, roleplay, shut-in, NEET gets summoned to the world based on the game he plays as a demon king, however when he gets there due to his social awkwardity, he basically has to keep up his role-play shindig so nobody finds out hes in fact a social trainwreck. So far from what I can tell its minor healing, mostly comedy action adventure with harem hijinks.

8 volumes are currently out I believe.

@bryan yeah, I'm hoping for that too, since importing the books to my country raises the cost by 50-60%

@bryan unfortunately Hachette are only listing a physical release for "That Time I Got Reincarnated As A Slime" at present.

I actually picked up Slavemagic on a whim a while back because the art was pretty. I was worried about the "slave" part, but having more recently tracked down a translation it's not even as bad as Shield Hero in that regard and no worse than Death March. The sexual content is another matter though...

@phobes Seraph of the end has 2 Light Novel series that I am aware of.

1 series is licensed by Vertical Inc. - Seraph of the End: Guren Ichinose: Catastrophe at Sixteen, and they are releasing the volumes in 2 - in - 1 editions.

The other series is not yet licensed. - Seraph of the End: The Story of Vampire Mikaela

Sorry but J-Novel Club does not publicly comment on any potential licensing decision or acquisitions.

                  @shiroi-hane
I also picked it up on a whim because of the art.
Yeah I'm aware it starts to get lewd by volume 3 but I suppose it wouldn't hurt to have something a bit different. At the very least from what Ive read of volume 1 it stands on its own. As for the slave thing, as far as I can tell since the whole thing was an accident, so his whole goal is to break the spell, not profit from it, so for the most part its basically moot.
On another note I guess it just bothers me to see a half decent series get destroyed by awful grammer and silly spelling errors, even if its in goodwill. I suppose Warnis's Rokujouma translations have spoiled me even if their not perfect.

Hey, how about you pick up Kino's Journey since it's getting a new anime and all that stuff?

Also, it's been quite a while since there have been new licenses, should people be worried?

@kino Kino's journey might be difficult to acquire, considering that not only is it a Kadokawa title, but also it has been licensed by Tokyopop back in the day. And while I'm not 100% certain, I recall Tokyopop doing something stupid which aggravated the author, making him wary of further localization.

He seems to be pretty chill since he came as special guest to the Crunchyroll convention, I don't think he'll mind if his series gets published here again, properly. I kind of hope the fact that it was licensed by Tokyopop makes it easier to license.

@yankee Definitely need Zero since it's an important tale for DR 2 iirc.

@kino it's not really the author stopping the acquisition it's the fact that as of right now J-Novel Club just can't license Kadokawa properties.

51% of Yen press is owned by Kadokawa so as of right now Kadokawa pretty much gets first and last dibs.

Regarding licensing something that was once already licensed...because TokyoPop went under and thus Kino's Journey didn't sell it makes it that much harder to license it here.

Japanese publishers don't like failure (no one does) so they would be reluctant to try a title that already "failed" once. Plus the American publishers may be hesitate to license a book series that already "failed" once. In this case it doesn't matter cause J-Novel can't license from the parent company anyway

What are the chances of an English release helping to revive a dead series?

Realistically, I think it would have very little impact. Light novels are a niche of a niche in the west so I can't imagine that they sell the kinds of numbers that would be needed. That's also assuming that the series got cancelled in Japan due to sales and not something like the author becoming ill...

@yankee from what I could see, seems like the author moved on to the Fantasy/Isekai genre

@yankee @yankee turns out I have books from three Nazuna Miki series (and others wishlisted) - but not that particular one as it happens.

I'd posted this in the wrong place. Wondered where it had gone:

It's Kadokawa/Media Factory but Kusoge Online seems interesting. It's a full dive MMO setting, but in a early game of the genre that is not only incomplete but also hopelessly broken (the main character is roped into trying to fix it).

Cheat Majutsu de Unmei wo Nejifuseru

One of Tsukiyo Rui-sensei's interlinked titles (Including Elf Tensei, Kaifuku Jutsushi, Okashi Shokunin and probably Maou-sama no Machizukuri). This one is direct sequel to Elf Tensei featuring one of the previous MC's daughter.

Nepustation's GM Rusaku did some translation on it until a while ago where a jerk upset him and caused him to stop entirely. I'm still wishing someone would pick it up.

I really suggest the LN: Papa no Iukoto wo Kikinasai! written by Tomohiro Matsu.
A "slice of life" novel that worthy to read. I've waited for this LN to be translated for more than 7 years.
