    Armed Librarians
    Written by Ishio Yamagata
    Published by Shueisha
    10 volumes complete

    Synopsis (from Wikipedia)
In a world where deceased people turn into stone-like books and are stored in the Bantorra Library, anyone who reads a book can learn its past. Bantorra Library is maintained by the Armed Librarians, who wield supernatural abilities, and their enemy is a psychotic cult known as Shindeki Church. As the story progresses it presents a world of sorrow and pain, and the unfairness and frugality of life, as well as personal desires. However, in each arc there is also a small underlying hope, and more of the reasons, conspiracies, and secrets are revealed behind everything.

    Why I want it:
Number on reason: Ishio Yamagata wrote Rokka, and I think that series is great. This looks to be similar in that it has intricate plotting and dark storylines but with main characters you can root for. I think the idea of people turning into books that you can read upon death is pretty unique and fascinating too, something I think Yamagata could do well with. Also I like stories where the villains are cult Churches, so yay for that. There was an anime that I haven’t seen, maybe someone else can chime in about that.

Also, it’s complete and seems to have an ending (someone correct me if I’m wrong here) which is nice.

The anime for this one is titled The Book of Bantorra iirc (just posting that so it'll pop up in search).

I skimmed through it (it didn't catch my interest at the time). I honestly can't remember anything (I remember one of the characters having a house on a tall hill... I think, lol).

Looking at the GIFS of this, it's a lot of PLOT and LIFE, mixed in between battles. Definitely a bit different than Rokka.

Yes... Truly the series of series with houses on hilltops. The Hilltop Steakhouse of series you could say.

Edit: The series is on Hidive

The anime was great, but a little slow at the start. From what I heard they adapted all books but skipped some contents.

I liked the anime, but it felt a bit rushed towards the end. I'd definitely read the novels.

Spotlight time! A friendly bump to an older post that hasn't had any recent conversation and is lower on votes in order to draw attention to it.

I’d forgotten I’d suggested this, but it does look good. Maybe one day.,,
