As someone who often reads on her train commute, physical volumes can be pretty embarrassing to read as well due to the covers. So many titles with fanservicey covers even when the contents aren't like that...

I think a lot of the most non-offensive/least embarrassing to listen to out loud titles have already been listed but my list would includes light novels like The Faraway Paladin, Spice and Wolf, Kieli, and Baccano along with some fan-translations like Mimizu to Yoru no Ou and serialised novels like The Legend of Galactic Heroes. Some of these titles are somewhat violent (Baccano especially, haha) but I think that's generally less embarrassing/offensive than novels with fanservice scenes or overt sexualisation.

@l-sama You know, I actually was thinking about that series. It still doesn't offend me as much as Re:Monster, although I admittedly didn't read too much into it.

The big difference I think is that in Maoh no Hajimekata, we know off the bat that he's a bad guy. It's in the name of the title even, the main character is not supposed to be redeemable. Not to say it's good, but at least it's obvious up front what type of story it's going to be.

Re:Monster offends me because it sneaks up on you with that shit. It has the gall to give Rou some sort of moral objection to rape and then turn around and basically have him commit rape anyway. All the while comment about how virile and strong he is, it's revolting.
