Sometimes I like to listen to my novels out loud, but light novels... This can be a dicey proposition. From sexual stuff to curse words, you never know what you're going to hear next.

I'm curious what LN would be the easiest to listen to read aloud without fear of offending casual passersby on a warm sunny day outside.

Here are some that have small problems off the top of my head:

Dendrogram - Overall, it was pretty easy to read aloud. Though a character shouts the "F" word in one of the volumes. There's talk of kidnapping in volume 2 and severing of body parts, but I don't think of the language used there was bad enough to raise an eyebrow, lol.

Occultic;Nine - This is one of the worst to listen to aloud iirc. Otaku desires, bro-con, etc. Headphones only affair maybe. xD

      Grimgar - Ranta.

Vending Machine was honestly not that bad until they got to the section where he starts offering "protection" and "magazines" (and even still, not that bad).

...I need to invest in some really comfy cordless walking headphones I think...

I've Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level is quite SFW, the worst it might offer is some racy jokes or descriptions of boobs (I don't remember anything offensive, at least), but overall pretty fluffy slice of life.

Whoever said nothing's impossible never tried slamming a revolving door.

Psycome. I've only read the first volume (so far), but there's lot of swearing (plenty of eff-bombs) and violence (like, dang), and a number of sex jokes. Headphones only.

Mixed Bathing in Another Dimension. I'd think the title alone would answer the question, but outside of the titular actions (heh), this one is pretty tame.

What I've read of If It's for my Daughter seems pretty safe. Don't know if that changes in later volumes though.

Monogatari series. It is filled with Sexual stuff and is in a constant grey area (though it is kinda on the line of Grey Area and Taboo), like the relationship between the Araragi siblings. There is literally a two-page description of panties, and not only that the MC for 80 pages talks to his little sister about undies and the like too. In Bakemonogatari, the MC felt the breasts of an elementary schooler and that also has some page count of relevance.

Paying to Win in a VRMMO is safe as milk from the four volumes I’ve read so far and really good. Faraway Paladin I think too, though there’s Fantasy Violence, nothing that should raise eyebrows. Devil is a Part Timer seems safe, also the first volume of Rokka definitely is.

It doesn't have a digital edition, so I haven't read it nor applies for TTS, but if it's anything like the anime, A Sister's All You Need could be among the worst easily.

As for tame, doting idiot aside, For My Daugther should do. Rokujouma is usually fluffiness overload as well.

                  Give Quof a break!
WHAT'S THE STORY WITH THAT FREAKING BLACK DRAGON?!

                    Rokka definitely is.

                    Unfortunately Rokka isn't digital. T.T

But even so, I'll take physical suggestions. I like to read it out loud occasionally. Was reading a bit of Baccano today aloud (volume 5 is kind of dull so far through about 100+ pages, so anything to break up the monotony a bit; I do appreciate how Narita can switch genre so easily from gangster tale to horror / mystery / MNight style village tale).

Probably 'In Another World With My Smartphone', since at least 3 of the protagonists' fiancees are currently underaged (the biggest offender being Sue who is aged 10 or so), and Leen who might be 600 years old but has the physical appearance of a preteen.

Dr. Regina Babylon is also another potential eyebrow-raiser, considering her personality and recent developments concerning her character in the LNs.

That, and the author seems to have an extreme dislike of China or something, considering the way that Yulong and its entire populace were depicted in the story.

I honestly feel that Re:Monster is pretty offensive. Early in the story they establish that Goblins procreate by kidnapping human females and rape them to breed, and since Rou was a reincarnated human he wasn't too happy with this.

But then like fifty chapters later, Rou starts kidnapping elves and while he doesn't rape them right off the bat, he holds them in captivity and then drugs them until they "willingly" submit to being gang-banged by various goblins and monsters.

THIS IS NOT ANY BETTER! THIS IS ARGUABLY EVEN WORSE THAN BEFORE!

You know what, I found a site that translates Japanese WN and they all look like they would make it here. The Site is called Bread Machine or something like that.

to give you an idea of some of the stuff, in one of the series, the MC gets 3 powers and uses them to rape the princess. I think one of them the MC kidnapped a girl and brought her to his secluded house and raped her. And finally, I am pretty sure there was one where the MC started a club or something, made the most beautiful girl in school his love slave essentially by tricking her into thinking he wants to give messages for his career!

Edit: I am pretty sure that last one is a VN originally.

One of the worst I saw was by this 'healer' who gets treated horribly (yeah, he did but still) and somehow bullshit 'heals the world' so he goes back in time.

And proceeds to mindrape and rape everyone who hurt him, which I MAYBE could accept as revenge porn as they raped him first, but also proceeds to mindrape and rape good people and is basically a horrible person in general.

It reads like some edgy teenager trying to be XTREME, but without even the mitigating aspect of a good idea. It's just hackneyed, badly-plotted, and horrible.

@dtta I think that is made by the same author as some recommendations I have seen. I forgot if they were from the general thread of the new series threads.

                                    he wrote

Elf Tensei Kara no Cheat Kenkoku-ki

                                    and

Cheat Majutsu de Unmei wo Nejifuseru

Oh, if we're going by that criteria, then the most offensive LN series (which I'm glad is still unlicensed) that I'm personally aware of is probably Maou no Hajimekata by Yakan Warau.

I won't go into too many details, but the lead character (I refuse to refer to him as a protagonist) is quite possibly one of the most despicable mains that I've ever had the displeasure of encountering, going as far as to rape practically every single unwilling female that he comes across and/or force them to submit to his will through a combination of illusions, torture and/or psychological warfare.

In one example, he captured a party of four adventurers who ventured into his dungeon, brainwashed the three females into submitting to him and then proceeded to rape one of them violently in front of the leader (the lone male, who was also the lover of the hapless woman in question). Naturally, the man was enraged but helpless to do anything, and when his anger/despair was at its peak, he was promptly beheaded and turned into a restless dullahan in order to defend the MC's dungeon.

And if you can believe it, the MC has committed even worse atrocities than that, although I dropped the series barely a volume later as this was too much even for me.

The scene after Jenny gives Ann instructions gave me anxiety listening to it out loud, lol. While it's not super offensive, the main character constantly talking in those scenes about Ann's seeming age, and then in subsequent scenes with Ann's friend offering herself to him and his temptation could be read very creepily by someone walking by. xD

I guess it is inoffensive in that there's not much bad stuff going on and the protagonist has self-restraint.
