I've only read (all of) Daughter, so this is a good catch-up catch-up for me.

      • Ao Oni - horror novels aren't my cup of tea, but I have read older Stephen King and some Clive Barker.
      • Part 1 of Bluesteel Blasphemer didn't hook me into buying it, but as a "rental" I'm interested in reading more.
      • I've been waiting for an Arifureta catch-up since I joined JNC last September
      • The Demon Lord anime was fun.
      • I think my otaku level is far too low to appreciate Outbreak, but I did enjoy the anime.
      • There's no way I'd blind-buy Rangarok after disliking the anime, but on catch up I can give it a second chance.

I would recommend reading Ao Oni if you have the chance.

Personally I will be trying out Ragnarok, I had read that is a lot better than it's anime adaptation

@renofury Yeah, you should definitely try the LN. Anime? What anime? 🙄

Ragnarok for me if I have time. Got quite a bit to read though, so I may not.

Ao Oni I'll save for September / October.

@lex How are you able to read that much!? I'm only able to get through 3-4 books á month, at most...

You may want to look cool but this is not humanly possible unless the "books" are extremely short. I guess you meant 4.

No, I mean literally 40. You are sort of right though that it is impossible for me to read 40 digital books in a day. I'd say with digital, I'm closer to 10-20 right now. As digital technology improves though, it will go up.

Might seem odd, but I'd say if we were to take harry potter as an example, I can read an average of 1-3 books an hour. (I read slower at first and pick up speed the more I read). Assuming that Harry Potter's first book, the sorcerer's stone, is a single book (about 200 pages), I generally read about that much my first hour of uninterrupted reading. (1 book an hour to start). After a few hours, I end up reading about 2-3 books (using harry potter's first book as a 'book') an hour and by the end of the day, I'm reading 3 books an hour (again, using harry potter's first book as the method of defining a 'book'). I can potentially go past 40 if I skip sleep, but I can't process as fast if I'm tired.

I'd say I'm a bit high even among my more book loving friends, but even they can hit 20+ books a day (none of them actually sit down and read for 16 hours straight though, so I suspect that the faster ones can read more than me if they actually did). It is actually probably a little harder for me to read slowly. I can't even figure out how it is possible taking an entire week to read a single chapter of a book like some of my classmates did back in school. I'd say they are kind of lucky in the sense that they wouldn't have high book costs like I do (At least some years, I averaged 1k USD per month in books and manga costs. This year is looking to be on the low side with about 200-400 USD per month on average plus membership since I'm only buying during sales).

I mean, even with digital books, I can't read that slowly. How are you only reading 4 books a day? @_@ . 8 hours of work, 8 hours of sleep, Assuming you have an hour of transportation, you still have 6 hours to read... And I'm assuming you are talking about days off, which means 16 hours of reading time. 4 hours a book is way too long! You are missing out on way too many stories if you read that slowly. You need to speed up. A lot. Just think about all the great stories out there for you to read and it will definitely get you motivated to read faster.

Bluesteel Blasphemer is a total of 37 parts. Read two parts a day (each part isn’t that long) and you get through all four volumes in a bit more than two weeks.

@lixaxy I have also read all those series (including Bluesteel) when they first started I kept up with all prepub releases and didn’t fall behind, and here we are today.

@lixaxy I can read between one and three volumes a day, depending on their length and on how much free time I have. Last month I read the entire Campione! series, 21 volumes, in about 3 weeks. Keep in mind that I tend to read quickly so it happens that I miss some details, but since there are so many things I want to read I can't do otherwise.

I can read a LN in 4-5 hours without skimming or speed reading techniques.

For many people the speed at which you can read a book increases over time as you read more books.

I've been reading Western fantasy and science fiction since I was 9-10, and as a kid I'd spend weekends working through a stack of books instead of playing sports or games or posting on social media (which did not exist). So my [ Reading ] skill has leveled up a bit :-)
