A lot of discussion is going on elsewhere ab0ut Amazon vs. various other vendors, but I thought it would be a good idea to split the physical book vendor discussion from the ebook discussion.

RightStuf - American vendor that is also a producer of content, based in Iowa. Prices are usually pretty good, and they ship reasonably quickly on domestic stuff. No ebook sales that I've seen. If you pre-order something, there is a chance that you can get it before its official release date.

They have a "Get Anime" promotion that nets you an extra discount on many items (usually 10%). And, of course, they also sell anime.

@sniper_samurai Does Book Depository do digital books, or are you talking physicals?

@catstorm read the full thread, they are listed.

Edit: hmm, 11 pages is a bit much. Perhaps the first post could have the full current list added to it?

Of course if you buy Premium editions from JNC nothing is missing and you get bonus stories.

Cat storm is referring to which physical titles have been pulled from Bookdepository.

To my knowledge it is No Game No Life & Clockwork Planet.

Sorry but J-Novel Club does not publicly comment on any potential licensing decision or acquisitions.

Yeah no, the ones nuked from Amazon are not the same as from book depository. Things like how not to summon are still available on book depository so that’s why I asked which ones had been removed from that specific site.

                      @catstorm @Rahul-Balaggan - yep, I totally misunderstood the question.

Sigh. This is a very 2020 turn of events. Hopefully 2021 is less awful.

@Darkdroid Yeah it sucks, that why I continue to use Amazon for physical books, I don't like that but I can't really afford to double the price of every orders

@Darkdroid you can try Wordery. Also, your local bookstores may have an option to order specific books.

I've had pretty bad experiences with RightStuf even when I was prepared to pay an arm and a leg for overseas shipping for something. I had my order cancelled for no discernible reason. They claimed a verification email had been sent but I never received anything and they'd put a hold charge on my credit card so I couldn't afford to just reorder like they said I should. They of course accepted no fault.

@megahbite My experience with Right Stuf has been excellent (including when dealing with their customer service), though obviously, there's no guarantee that everyone has the same experience.

However, it is my understanding that when there's a problem with your credit card, they'll send you an e-mail that you do need to respond to within a few days, or they will cancel your order. So, if something went wrong with that e-mail, and you didn't get it (e.g. it ended up in your spam folder), then they'd definitely cancel your order. How long the hold on your card would then last would typically depend on your credit card company, but having it take a few days is annoyingly rather typical. What you're describing is what I'd expect to happen with most stores when they decide that there's a problem with your card, though it's my understanding that Right Stuf can be pickier for your initial order and is more likely to decide that they need verification.

Once you've successfully ordered with them though, I wouldn't expect that sort of problem again unless there wasn't enough credit on your card when they went to charge it, or if your billing address changed, and you didn't update your order accordingly. So, while I can definitely understand getting frustrated with them over what happened, it shouldn't be the sort of problem that would normally happen with ordering from Right Stuf. I'd suggest that you give them another chance, since (at least for the US), they typically have the best prices when you take advantage of their sales, and in my experience, their customer service has been good. But obviously, that's up to you.

@catstorm How not to Summon physical light novels were never taken down from amazon, only the ebooks. So saying Book Depo is still selling the paperbacks as well doesn't really mean anything.

I was responding to someone who said that book depository had taken down LN now as BD only sell physical I was trying to find out which LNs have been taken down.

Mentioning How not to summon was relevant because the digital has been taken down on amazon while the physical was still available on BD.

So I was trying to find out exactly which physical releases have been removed as they do not correlate with the digital removals.

I don't know much about how they are overseas, but my experience with Rightstuf has been positive. They seem to generally be the best here in the US if you want new physicals, meet the free shipping bar, and don't mind potentially waiting if you mix preorders and stuff that's currently out (or preorders with different release dates) in the same order. They're generally cheaper than Amazon for newer releases, especially if you wait for publisher or holiday sales, and they generally pack things better so they're less likely to arrive damaged. I would generally recommend against their membership, though, unless you buy a lot and not just during their holiday or summer sales (publisher sales are fine). The discount is generally only 5% for manga and LNs and doesn't work for the big sales.

Hopefully Amazon doesn't start taking down physicals. From what people said earlier it sounded like the kindle content review was pretty separate from whatever goes on with physical books?

@Kalessin I'd made orders from them in the past with the same credit card and I checked my spam folder for any sign of the verification email but nothing. All their other emails got through fine. It took nearly two weeks for the charge to be removed.

Needless to say between that situation, their terrible manner and turnaround time in support requests, and the absurd international shipping charges, I'd recommend non-US people to not use them.
