    cover vol 9

Title: Okobore Hime to Entaku no Kishi (おこぼれ姫と円卓の騎士) / The Leftover Princess and the Knights of the Round
    Author: Ishida Rinne
    Illustrator: Okiya Ichiko
Publisher: Enterbrain / B's Log Bunko
    Volumes: 17 (completed)

    Synopsis:
Leticia’s father, the current king, is very wise and knew that both of his sons have their own supporters and that if either one became king the other brother’s supporters would rebel, and the country would have a civil war. So he decided to announce that he will retire while he’s still alive and make his daughter, the princess, his successor! However, the princess doesn’t have any political allies. So she decides to gather a group of knights loyal to her and form her own “round table” before the day of her coronation. The problem is, all of the good knights who are strong and skillful and loyal have already been snatched up by her father and brothers for their own personal guards.

    Why license this?
It is so, so good. One of the best LNs I've ever had the pleasure of reading, and I don't say that lightly. The main character Leticia is strong and smart. The plot twists and tension building is superb. The personal relationships are well written, especially if you like sibling relationships. The kingdom succession drama is complex and not dumbed down. Yet the shoujo aspect is not forgotton, as we're still treated with dreamy moments with all the ikemen factor that you'd expect from a story about "collecting knights". It's also finished, so there's hope for a conclusive ending.

I might be mistaking this for another LN, but I think I've read some of the manga version. Is this the one where the princess has dreams where she is part of a council (more specifically a hang-out and complaints session) of other kings of the country, including those from the future?

@unsynchedcheese That's the one. Its manga is a poor adaptation though, and moreover it's cancelled.

@nofairytale Ah, okay. I think I mostly noticed the manga in the first place because I was intrigued by the Dream Councils, particularly how there seemed to be an unspoken guideline of not talking about historical specifics and politics.

So we have all these legendary kings just griping about regular everyday stuff, and I live for that.

Hoping that this gets more screentime in the LN than in what I've read of the manga.

Oh yes, this definitely needs to get licensed! I wonder why no one had the idea to suggest this title previously?

@Clarabelle Based on what I read lurking here, suppose it being a Kadokawa title might have something to do with people being reluctant? In any case, I just want to give it the shoutout it deserves, hehe.

@unsynchedcheese that aspect quite confused me in the manga, but it's definitely explained better in novel form.

Fun story, I was literally typing up a topic recommending this since I couldn't find a post in the compilation thread (I guess this topic was too new). Luckily I also clicked randomly on topics trying to figure out the right format and clicked into this thread??

This story is really really good. The sibling relationships are heartbreaking and beautiful.

Love to see this getting an official release by JNC. (Especially with the Kadokawa partnership)

Next to Sugar Apple Fairy Tale this is the novel from the same publisher that I want to see most getting licensed by J-Novel Club! Now that they have a partnership with Kadokawa I have really high hopes.
