@perch JNC members can read the book as it's being translated, before it's fully released, so most discussion topics on our forums are "members only" so that people who wait until they're released don't get spoiled.

Yes, they are quite similar, I personally enjoy Tearmoon more.
V1 of Bakarina was a really fun and I enjoyed it quite a bit, that was probably because most of the book was set up from the perspective of children.
After V1 the volumes got less and less interesting, I am still reading it, but my interest has diminished greatly.
Tearmoon so far has held my attention in V2, just as much as in V1.

@Rahul-Balaggan Exactly my thought on Bakarina. Volume 1 was great, 2 was also good but then I found that it declined. And really, a stuffed teddy with an attitude as a detector in Volume 4? Didn't even finish reading it. Maybe by the time of the next catchup.
But to come back. Yes I enjoy Tearmoon. Strangely I quite like such series with misinterpreted protagonists. Makes for funny moments.

The good thing about Tearmoon is that the protagonist is legitimately a version of the kind of character who would be the villain of an otome game. She is selfish, vain and petty. Still, she is likeable. She's a brat, but a cute one. You want to see her succeed, and inadvertently become a better person as she stumbles her way to victory.

@saskir I think what might have happened to Bakarina is that the author had planned to end series at 2 or 3 volumes because at that point Katarina had already survived all her bad ends but continued the story because it was popular. Since Kataraina had at the point achieved her original goal and thus the main goal of the series I'm not surprised that it became less interesting after that.

Kinda reminds more of a Warhammer 40K novel, Ciaphas Cain, Hero of the Imperium!
Or actually someone who pretends to be fearless, upstanding commander who appears to care about the troops under his command (and in some cases maybe he actually does) but is primarily more concerned with just trying to save his own ass from the fiendish nightmares of the grimdark universe.

@perch - I Refuse to be Your Enemy -and- Deathbound Duke's Daughter are also "otome game bad ending" novels. I liked both of them more than Bakarina because the MCs are less... uh, mentally ungifted?

@Rahul-Balaggan yes I see what you mean; that the great strength of otome isekai light novels is that they are driven in the most by the character of our leading lady, either through their knowledge and talent (such as in Bookworm) or through their personality and charm (like Bakarina). This makes them far superior, in my humble opinion, to isekai light novels that just uses an OP ability to mow through their new world. That being said, this can also be an issue if you do not enjoy the main character. Personally, I rather enjoy Bakarina's stupid shenanigans but I understand that everyone has a different shenanigan tolerance.

I enjoy Bakarina but at times it seems I enjoy it in spite of itself. It certainly lacks any sense of direction at this point.
Tearmoon is legit probably my 3rd or 4th favorite series currently being released by J-Novel, depending on where I slot it vs Dendrogram. I've been infected by Mia-itis and can't help myself I suppose.
