      It's still not censorship though.

@raitoiro That is not censorship, censorship is changing the contents because of third-party influence. Calling a publisher disrespectable is not censorship, it's just expressing your opinion.

@myskaros Censorship is not just that, it's also making it so people can't have access to a content.

Saying that you won't buy something if it happen to be published, is voting with you're wallet.
Saying that it shouldn't be published, that people who would do it aren't respectable is, calling for censorship. A mild attempt for sure but, I do think that it fall under the definition, it's a similar situation to when people ask for a show to not be broadcast anymore cause they think it's morally bad. 0

Do you like death, war and misery ?
Do you like badass op loli who let nobody got in their way ?
          Do you like vengeance story?
If so then then vote for The girl who ate a death god

Let's all save the what is censorship discussion for another topic, as for now this series is not licensed by any company so the whole vote with your wallet is a non-issue

Sorry but J-Novel Club does not publicly comment on any potential licensing decision or acquisitions.

No, that's just not giving people access to content.

Frankly, you're out of line using an incredibly charged word like "censorship" to describe what's going on here. Killing journalists for reporting inconvenient news is censorship. Punishing people through violence for taking political action is censorship. Changing or removing content from media in order to appease a committee or appeal to a specific audience is censorship.

Someone on the Internet making a one-off comment about how they don't like a certain work and it would reflect poorly on their own personal opinion if said work were licensed? That is not censorship, any more than someone telling you not to watch a movie on Netflix because you might feel squicky is censorship.

And if you're going to argue for a technicality, please, stop. Like I said, "censorship" is an incredibly charged word, and if you're not aware of the implications of accusing someone of advocating for censorship, then just take my word for it that it's not OK to accuse people of it here and it's a borderline personal attack.

(Edit: @Rahul-Balaggan I didn't see your comment before I posted this since it took me a while to try and write something that would fully clarify my position and the conversation hadn't progressed so far yet when I started, so sorry if I'm contributing to things getting further out of hand / off-topic by leaving it here, but I'll make this my last comment here and leave it at that.)

@raitoiro You can disagree where the line should be drawn, but what would it say about a publisher if they were fine with providing a platform for, say, something as extreme as a how-to guide to child victimization by a pedophile. (I forget the details since it was from a news story years ago, but this is something that some dude in Florida I think it was actually tried to get published (probably self-published, although I don't remember), although if I remember correctly the effort got shut down by federal or state authorities, and the guy was trying to claim it infringed on his free-speech rights.) Even if it could get it through any legal hurdles, and even if they thought it could generate revenue due to shock value, would you say that there's no problem in the publisher picking it up, and that people would be unjustified in wanting to boycott the publisher as a result because they don't want to associate with anyone who would willingly be involved in such an effort?

Now obviously the above is a much more extreme example, but the principles are similar. A translation/publishing company is free to publish what they want within legal limits, but to say people shouldn't judge them at some point for what they choose to spread and facilitate is, in my opinion, pretty stupid. Especially for a translation company, I feel they share some minimum amount of responsibility for their choices in that regard, especially when the company is as small as this so that it's not like something can just fly in under the radar without most of the top brass so to speak noticing and having a chance to provide input. The point at which one thinks that what a publishing/translation company picks up matters is up to individual interpretation, but I think that line should be drawn at some point or another even if I can't claim to have absolute wisdom on where exactly would be best both ethically and financially. For example, I don't think porn is a good or healthy thing whether or not it depicts and was produced with consent, but if JNC were to start licensing hentai novels I wouldn't necessarily care as long as safeguards such as a separate url or optional "don't show me 18+ material" filter in account settings were put in place so people who want to avoid it don't have to see it or accidentally stumble upon it, but those sorts of licenses might really upset other people and it would be something JNC would probably want to weigh before starting the H-Novel Club that some have proposed. On the other had, I would definitely care if JNC directed their resources towards something like this that has an MC who continuously rapes people and claims that for at least some of them that they deserve it, and it would affect at least to some extent how many JNC licenses I try or follow and whether or not I'd recommend JNC titles and subscriptions to other people.

Favorite JNC Series (tried): Bookworm, Faraway Paladin, Infinite Dendrogram, Grimgar, Crest/Banner of the Stars, Der Werwolf, The Skull Dragon's Precious Daughter, Apothecary Diaries

but something that is built around the MC raping tons of people and trying to justify it as revenge (and even just random people from what others have said) is a stain on society that a respectable publisher should never facilitate.

Another person talking about a series he has no knowledge about. The amount of people he actually raped can be counted on one hand.

I'm somewhat amused that this is actually getting an anime since its critical reception in Japan is largely negative. Each of its manga volumes average two and a half stars on amazon, with most reviews being 1-star... And the LN volumes don't score much higher with readers. Either way I'll be very surprised if a western streaming service picks this up, it's explicitly pornographic in most of the chapters so I can't see the anime adapting it well without being constant black bars.

@myskaros Apologies, got wrong person quoted in my reply :) Fixed now, thanks for letting me know. I dont really care about censorship or whatnot. I hated those figs and fecks in faraway paladin, made me cringe every time they came up. But I still enjoyed the story because it was pretty damn good.

What I dislike is people coming and talking about how a story with sexual content of volatile kind should never be licensed. Why should those people have a say in this matter to begin with, they ain't going to buy this series anyway.

Let the people who like high school drama have their novels with protagonists who gets sweaty palms by just looking a girl in the eyes. And let the others have their own entertainment.

After further consideration I have decided to not move the “what is censorship” discussion to its own thread, honestly it’s fairly cut and dry and doesn’t warrant further discussion.

With that being said this topic is about this particular series and should remain about this particular series, I will simply label the censorship discussion and over, and any further comments will be deleted.

                            Thank you for your cooperation.
