Arifureta Shokugyou de Sekai Saikyou anime is starting in less than a month.

I wonder if people have any sort of expectations? Hopes and dreams? It is also interesting if anime will boost light novel sales for j-novel.

Edit: Funimation will be streaming Arifureta. The simuldub will premiere on July 22, no idea about the cast.

Edit 2: IT'S NOT SUPPOSED TO BE PURPLE!

    Season 2 (January 2022)

@zing Expectation #1: Don't screw it up. (Shuddering as I recall Ragnarok.) Expectation #2: Provide a huge sales bump on both sides of the Pacific.

If I googled this correctly - the studio producing the anime is White Fox, they have some 'cred', they also did Devil is a Part Timer, and Goblin Slayer. (among others) Part of the problem with that anime which must not be spoken of

          spoiler

is that the studio who got the project was mostly known for games/ interactive novels- a very different skill set. They we're in over their heads and didn't do a very good job. (and they tried to fit about 8 volumes of nuanced content into a 13 episode anime- they bit off more than they could chew)

Now Arifureta has lots of content, earlier content is pretty 'safe' from a plot point of view (we've seen anime in similar veins). I'm hoping that the producers don't 'pull too many punches' in regard to language/violence/sex - if they did the series has a danger of becoming too vanilla. I'm looking forward to it: flirting vampires and flustered bunny girls? death and destruction where your ultimate foes are the gods themselves? what could be better? what could possibly go wrong?

          I read banned books

Hoping it's done decently well. If so, don't see why sells wouldn't see a boost.

Don't know how, if at all, the anime of Ragnarok affected the LN sells...but please don't let the Arifureta anime be anything like that mess.

So far it looks better than expected. This is their second try after all. I honestly can't imagine them making it any better than this.

Any guesses on how far the story will go?

Personally, with all the reported delays, I have kind of hoping that the anime will be the equivalent of Fate/Stay Night - Unlimited Bladeworks in terms of quality.....or maybe I am just wanting to add something to my must watch again and again collection.

@shrike_al as usual, 4 eps/volume is a passable pace, but at that speed we will have to leave Kaori out, so maybe 3 eps/volume? Any more than 4 vols and the anime will be instantly ruines.

Worth noting it hasn't been revealed how many episodes are planned. With a serial story like Arifureta is (there are X dungeons, you must conquer them all), it's more likely that they'll have multiple seasons planned out.

Whoever said nothing's impossible never tried slamming a revolving door.

Based on information revealed (VAs and Character Designs), I'm expecting volumes 1 to 3 to be adapted as a 12 episode season. I worry if they'll cram in 4 cause 3 volumes is already on the rushed side. The director doesn't have too much history to go off of in terms of adaptation of LNs. Overlap doesn't have many anime adaptations made for their works so this will probably be an important one that needs to do well if we want to see them put forward more series to get adaptations.

From the Previews, we already know that it looks like they may be cutting out ecchi since a certain character has clothes in a part of the story they shouldn't.

Overall, my expectations are just to try and keep them down because I don't trust anime adaptations to not be shit anymore. I'll be making a comparison though between the LN and Anime as it's airing probably.

@zing Lets just hope they stick to the way the light novels have it. I hate when they stray away from the original story in anime.

In my case, it poisoned my interest in the title to the point that I've ignored 1 or 2 chances to try reading it during catch-up months.

Each time I thought about reading it, painful memories of the anime drove me away.

Perhaps someday I'll have recovered from the trauma and will be able to give it a fair chance ;)

What a coincidence, it did the same for me, but gave it a try here recently and overall glad I did...it's not my favorite but enjoyable enough.

@myskaros I really doupt there's more season planned already. If it does really well maybe it will get a s2. But Overlap doesn't seems to be able to afford many anime adaptation, I think they will prioritise making advertisement for other series rather than a s2 for Arifureta.

Do you like death, war and misery ?
Do you like badass op loli who let nobody got in their way ?
                              Do you like vengeance story?
If so then then vote for The girl who ate a death god

It terms of rep, I think both studios have produces good quality anime in the past. It still largely depends on how they staff the production team. If we are to go by Goblin Slayer and some trailer footage, we might be seeing a fair share of CGI monsters.

Since Tio is present in the previews, we are at least guaranteed 3 volumes. It would honestly make sense to end the series at that big battle and a bit of tragedy.

From what I've seen of them in the past White Fox has a pretty good track record so I'm not too worried, I do wonder what caused the delay though, while I've seen some cases of episodes delayed I can't think of another example where an entire anime got delayed.

Stuff like that is announced more than a few times a year. You can bet it's even more common before the premiere is announced.

Anime production SNAFU. It's always that.
Overlap may've gotten a first row seat in Dynamic Chord production mess. Maybe that helped too.

@jon-mitchell Both Devil is a Part-Timer and Goblin Slayer were very good animes. That and the delay was because they didn't want to rush it give me confidence. New fear about the visuals. I hope Hajime looks like Hajime and not a Ken Kaneki(spelling?) knockoff.

@paul-nebeling Less of "not wanting to rush" and more like "due to change of staff". To me this one is likely 40% okay 60% flop.
