Incest?
-
I was reading Seirei Gensouki chapters on the website until I got to the point where they first mention the MC's cousin (first degree), and it already looks like something might happen. Does anything significant develop here, because I believe there are some lines you don't cross even in fiction. I don't want to continue unless I'm sure whether or not incest develops. Can someone give me a small spoiler?

I don't know how the story goes on in later volumes, but I can tell you that neither the WN nor the LN entries on NU have the Incest tag at least.

@tahu In Japan, marrying your cousin is legal. "Blood related", for legal purposes, is sharing a parent.
Most other countries would have issue with it.
-
@someoldguy Na, you can in fact marry your cousin in a lot of countries including most western countries it's not legal in a lot of US state tho.
The blue is where marriage is legal between first degree cousin

@tahu Regardless of the laws in different countries, no, he and his cousin aren't a thing.

I actually have the opposite opinion on terms of fiction. I believe fiction should be niche, it should be fetishy, it should be whatever the author wants to make. Fiction should not be censored is basically my point. There will always be an audience for any story for if there is one person who wants to see X there will be others too. No matter the story there will always be people who will hate it but there will always be people who love it too. It is the niche, the fetish that I believe make make us prefer one mainstream story over another.

@tahu From the latest translated of Seirei Gensouki, there is currently no development in that regards.
sure Ruri likes Rio but not romantically (at least until vol.3, and she has not make any appearance until vol 8)
there is one instance where Ruri asked Rio to marry her if no one want her but it's kind of joke (or maybe half serious).
there is also Hayate that likes Ruri, and also Rio romantical heart is kind of locked to Miharu. -
Fiction is allowed to cross every line imho. That's partly why we have it. And I don't see what the big deal is either. First of all it's legal in most countries and second it's not really an issue from a medical standpoint either.
In fact, I think it's a reasonably common thing (if you look worldwide I mean). -

In fact, I think it's a reasonably common thing (if you look worldwide I mean). In my honest opinion, fiction is fiction because it deals with things that might not be possible in the current world or might not be allowed. Of course, you have many countries that dictate what is allowed and what isn't (the US, for example, is really odd when it comes to anime as I've mentioned elsewhere. Some things are legal in western works, but not legal in anime.)

From what I can tell, most of the girls in the Seirei Gensouki series

@sinnoaria I think it’s cuz we are getting to the point where people get sensitive over almost anything. Like I roast my friends sometimes and they do it back. It’s all fun and jokes, but if someone not from my group of friends heard any of the roasts they would probably get super butt hurt, even if I explain we are messy around. It’s one of the reason I don’t use big social media’s, cuz a lot of people are getting in trouble for what they said years ago. Shit, the teenage me would probably have a hard time if everything I said was recorded. Well this a different topic so I’ll end it here.

@sinnoaria said in Incest?:
From what I can tell, most of the girls in the Seirei Gensouki series
I guess there is no point in reading it then.

Speaking of Isekai and crossing lines, here's a tibit about Bookworm that people might want to take note if these kinds of ethics issues are what they'd use as a litmus test (heavy spolier regarding future chapters):
As Anpan mentioned, I think fictions should be allowed some leeways in terms of what to depict or discuss. But of course, people are free to choose what they want to read, so whatever issues they feel they might be offended, just stop reading right there. It's also important to note that something written into the story doesn't equal to the author promoting it. This is why I'm weary of certain acts of literary censorship for the sake of public decency.

In light-novels/anime I rarely seen incest tackled with serious thought, but rather I mostly see it included as just to appeal to the "little sister" fetish, and having the same artistic value of a sales promotion. However I am of the opinion that the authors are free write about incest as they see fitting.
Some will explore deeply the subject and while others will just add a little sister for "moe".It is up to the reader to chose if they want to read them or not. But other people are also free to make personal judgements and shun such material. It is also up to the publisher to decide if it wants to publish them, but please include a warning so parents and kids can make an informed decision.

but please include a warning so parents and kids can make an informed decision.
"WARNING incest inside" it doesn't look like somethink which would help the sale ^^
Plus most of the time there's no real incest, and even if we just warn of pseudo-relationship or character with brother complex or sister complex, in a lot of case it wouldn't really represent the serie for exemple in Medaka box the MC's brother has a hard core sister-complex but that character is secondary at best and that "incest" aspect is only the subject of a couple of joke in serie.
Also where do you, put the line for what is and isn’t incest like brother/sister is, cousin maybe, would somethink like Mushoku Tensei be incestuous ? after all Rudeus and Eris share a great-grand mother, and are both from the Greyrat family. Do step-sibiling count ?
And even if we take something where it's obviously incestuous, something like Game of Thrones for exemple, why warn people of incest when the book contain murder, wars, torture, rape, ... which are all way worst than incest.

@raitoiro Maybe they could listed as sexual content that would definitely increase sales! Their are parents that would appreciate to know more about the media their kids consume. It also could serve to lessen complaints of parents that deemed such content questionable.
