Arifureta or Grimgar?

After reading up to volume 4, I have a rather poor impression of Grimgar. Its just so fucking depressing, everything is and at all times, GRIM. Its like reading a generic D&D campaign written by a sadist. There is zero humour in the 4 books I read so far. I cant even understand how the party members manage to go on living without becoming insane after going through crazy shit covered up by more crazy shit. The story is so grey and social interaction between the party members are so meagre, it makes you wish author had written a beach arc every now and then.
So far, roughly 85% of the dialogue between party members consist of 1 character being a total jerk to everybody else and everybody else being jerks back to said character. The rest of the story is pretty much told through the most unrelatable character of all time, who for the most time either depressed or insecure, or both.
In conclusion:
Grimgar if you want to feel sad.
Arifureta if you want to feel happy. -
To be fair, "grim" is literally in the title.

That is misleading. "Grim" is part of a word that is in the title.

Is it though? "grimgar" doesn't sound any happier than "grim", and "of ash" is normally not associated with positive things.

I'd say Grimgar is the most consistently rage-inducing of the things that I read. There is a lot of internal whining and general lack of self-confidence among the main characters, and when there is growth, Haruhito especially, seems to get knocked back down a peg into "loser" territory almost as fast as he improves.
All that said, I still enjoy the universe and the overall story for the most part, so I put up with it despite the spikes in blood pressure that come along pretty often.

I read Arifureta starts edgy but it turn quickly into a harem with an OP protagist, I enjoyed it till volume 8 then dropped. Its pretty funny and cute
Grimgar is edgy throughout, I read till the start of volume 10 (the volume after they get out of the darkness world forgot which volume it was). I didn't drop the series however I put it on shelf till I am back in the mood for heavier stuff.
I would also suggest Rokka Braves of the six flowers, it is very edgy and intriguing. I got my hands on volume 6 just a few days before Christmas now I just have to get into the mood to read something heavy
