Sol Press license rescues!

As announced at Anime Expo 2022, J-Novel Club has licensed a number of light novel titles that were previously published by Sol Press! Here are some additional details on specific series:
For the first four series listed below, we are running the previous English releases through an additional round of QA, then publishing them direct to ebook. Most of these series were already completely translated, so we are focusing on getting the books back in stores. We will add streaming parts for each volume later, but we do not have an ETA on that.
- Why Shouldn't a Detestable Demon Lord Fall in Love?!
- The entire series (4 volumes) is available for purchase now!
- Redefining the Meta at VRMMO Academy
- Volumes 1-4 available now!
- Volume 5 now streaming!
- Battle Divas
- The entire series (3 volumes) is available for purchase now!
- Strongest Gamer
- The entire series (2 volumes) is available for purchase now!
- I Surrendered My Sword for a New Life as a Mage, The Game Master Has Logged In to Another World
- Now streaming!
- Let This Grieving Soul Retire
- Since these series only got a single volume released in English, we will be retranslating them and streaming them in the usual JNC fashion once they're ready!
That's all we've got for now! I'll try to keep this topic updated as there is new information to share on volume releases and streaming schedules!

That way, they at least have an available "preview" on the site.
Maybe it's just that I don't like purchasing books blindly.

Not a bad suggestion, although do bear in mind that when they go on sale at Kobo, etc., there are preview sections posted there; it is possible to look at the previews elsewhere while JNC focuses on making everything that's ready to roll rolling.

Already have Detestable Demon Lord and Strongest Gamer. But will rebuy from Jnovel if Chivalry of a Failed Knight gets rescued 😜

Of course we'll never know as I suppose it's trade secrets, but it would certainly be fun to know what the sales of these license rescues will eventually be, compared to original Sol sales.
The precedents we do have, like Slayers, are all old stuff so they aren't directly comparable.

Read the main post. The top 4 series in the image (which includes Detestable Demon Lord) are simple republications of the existing Sol Press translations. All that will be different is a quick additional QA pass to check for typos/errors. Sol Press translated all 4 volumes so there’s nothing additional to publish; they’re simply just making them available again as ebooks legally on the market.

@Dicara FYI the translations for Detestable and Strongest Gamer seemed fine to me, no better or worse than ones from Cross Infinite, Yen, etc.

I think the implication in 'rescue' is that JNC will try to license the series beyond what is in print now - yes they'll clean up vol 1-4 of whatever, and I want them streamed (cuz' that's how I consume LNs) but the rescue part is that once they show that they can generate revenue on the back issues...the original publishers will want JNC to do volume 5 and beyond. Folks who invested emotionally or financially in a series won't be abandoned.
I've posted multiple times that SOL was not gonna get my $$ because of reasons, and I'm glad they are gone - that the artists who got held hostage by Sol's business practices will be getting royalties, and the works will continue to be translated - all good news (Hooray for JNC)

@Jon-Mitchell Detestable Demon Lord does not have a volume 5+, the series finished and was completely translated before. VRMMO Academy is a different situation, however, and JNC has said they plan to translate beyond where SP stopped.

I wasn't commenting about a specific series, but rescues in general - and not as a criticism to your comment (I hope it didn't come off that way)that being said - I hope JNC 'streams' Detestable Demon Lord it looks fun and that's how I consume my ln's --is the series complete? are there WN's waiting to be the next volume? maybe this interest (the rescue) will be a reason for more volumes?

@Jon-Mitchell Detestable Demon Lord does not have a WN, and it had a happy ending and all the stores say it ended at v4.

One of the very nice things about JNC is that once they license one volume of a work, unless events completely outside of their control intervene they'll do their utmost to continue that series through everything published in Japan.
Unlike certain other publishers.This impacts the whole Sol Press rescue thingy, in that there shouldn't be any question but that JNC will continue beyond the volumes Sol had published for those series where the translation was not complete.
While the background is that of a 'rescue', the reality is that these are now JNC licenses in every sense going forward. -
@Jon-Mitchell we might make it available for catch up one day or some other way to cheaply read the parts for members! No promises though.
