Not going to hold my breath waiting for a second season, but it would be nice.

@killerrin If you are that against reading stuff already covered, then you'd want to read volume 4, then skip to 6. The anime covered 1-3 straight, then skipped 4 to go to volume 5.

Its not so much that I'm against reading stuff that's already been covered. And more that I find it mentally easier to make the jump to the different medium if I start from new content then after I catch up, or if I find myself completely lost I'll tend to jump back to the earlier ones I initially skipped over.

In that case I guess I'll start from volume 4 and go onwards from there. Thanks :)

@killerrin the anime gutted most of the story. I'd say vol1 is the best place to start. Also the manga is pretty good.

Good to hear the manga is good. I might check it out if I find I need a better recap for the first couple volumes. Thanks :)

Absolutely disappointed in that episode. Almost ruined how I imagined volumes 5 and 6 (silver bride arc) that I have in the head.
To me, the leaping of Rio should be enhanced and within an enhanced human realm, not the superhuman levels shown there. Afterall, he is almost trying to replicate a higher tier artifact/weapon enhancement without exposing his spirit arts.

The communication between Rio and Celia, very little I could fault apart from wanting more detailing in the animation.

The mass deployment of troops, Rio fighting an army. No, that is not how I saw it. In truth the evading part was poorly done, more or less a lazy attempt by the script writers and animators to "Kirito-kun" Rio.

And sadly they brought in the hero arc as a culmination which sadly will detract from the awesomeness which was the first night of Celia and Rio in the house after the rescue. That handholding-fear-comfort scene is emotionally sweet and what set my heart on the Celia ship. Adding the Japanese trio will be a distraction from this. Especially since they made Rio assassinate/brutually kill all the merchant and his guards. Not how Rio was described in the novel, too cold and ruthless. Admittedly, it is how I would like him to be sometimes, but the level of violence shown is not the desired level, too emotional whilst Rio is more force i.e. controlled violence unless it involves Lucius.

Just my two cents on this bitter disappointment.

@custodes I think voice actors did the voice for Rio and Kirito.

I have been very disappointed with this anime and have descended to mostly pointing out mistakes instead of being entertained.

Arifureta was another anime that had a lot of obvious budget cutting issues and mistakes but I really enjoyed it for some reason. Maybe because it was soo bad it was good. Seirei Gensouki anime in contrast is so apathetic I can't watch it any more. Someone needs to redirect season 2 budget towards a new season of konosuba.

I just checked. Yes, it's the same voice actor. He does a lot of work, and not always the MC.

For what it's worth, I didn't particularly dislike the anime adaptation. It wasn't what I hoped it would be, but I enjoyed watching it just fine and would be happy to watch another season. I thought the Arifureta anime was massively more disappointing.

Same here. I’m very disappointed with the changes they did here…. It’s like they are trying to cue up Miharu for the season finale…

@thomask To me, it seemed like they were queuing up for a second season.

I honestly thought you guys were exaggerating when you started talking about the cramming at the end of the final episode, but holy moly you were not...

Overall, this was a very 'meh' anime to me - not bad, by any means, but definitely a tonne of wasted potential. They changed, skipped and reordered things enough that it just somehow didn't feel like the same story, even though the events were (mostly) the same. It also felt incredibly 'rushed' in the pacing, and the fact they covered four (and a bit) volumes in a single cour lends some credence to that, even ignoring the whole final five minutes thing.

I thought Arifureta was great when I saw it. However, having now read the novels, it has also gone down to merely 'good' for mostly the same reasons as above.

Realist Hero, on the other hand, was great to begin with, with only some minor (and, to me, questionable) changes that didn't really affect the story, tone or anything else about it. However, as things have gone on and they seem to have changed more and more, it is also going down in my estimations, though not to the degree of the two above (it still feels like the same story at least and the pacing seems about right). My main gripe with that one is the whole 'we must end every episode on a massive cliffhanger!!!!!!!11111oneoneone' thing they went with, even seemingly making some of the aforementioned (questionable/pointless) changes to facilitate this goal. -.-

For what it is, they did an incredible job of it, but oh man is it ever condensed; Reader's Digest ain't got nuthin' on these guys...

@paulnamida hopefully they doubled the budget of season 1 for a grand total of $200.

@paulnamida I saw this one coming. The first season, for all its faults, actually did very well on Japanese and Chinese streaming sites. Then the BDs actually sold out (BD Volume 1 at least) over the course of the anime's run. Then there's the crowdfunding that hit nearly twice its original goal.

Granted I couldn't be 100% sure, but all the factors I mentioned was why I was optimistic for a second season.
