Yeah. Finding legal options for supporting the official releases for these chinese novels is tough. I bought an revised edition of Martial God Asura off amazon a while ago. But mostly I've been using novel updates to watch for stuff to keep up on.

I've been aware that Gay romance writers had been arrested for describing gay sex. And I am always worried about whether I can make things easier for them as a westerner to support their works financially.

Due to how these titles are paced, I'm not expecting any titles to hop of Qidian and land in J-novel club. But I'll be very surprised.

It's super easy to find a way to support the official release, though. The largest publisher in China, Qidian, has an English website with a ridiculously huge number of webnovel series (and just started with manhua):

          https://www.webnovel.com/

Some are free, some they charge for chapters. Translation quality varies from terrible to good, because the model they use seems to be some sort of strange system where third-party translation companies post their work unsolicited in a sort of bizzaro inverse outsourcing, and then Qidian picks popular ones to start charging for chapters.

A good series to read on there (and one of their most popular ones), which I know a bunch of people in the JNC community already read, is Release That Witch: https://www.webnovel.com/book/7931338406001705/Release-That-Witch

Thank you for the emotional support. :)

I'll give that Release That Witch series a try. I'll admit that I've heard of the service, but I didn't give it a try. Cheers.

I'd love to see more chinese novels get licensed by companies in the future. There are some pretty cool ones out there.

I started reading a Chinese webnovel on webnovel.com but I dropped it after I realized that I spent 45 dollars on it.

I’d love to read Chinese “light novels” or the equivalent. I just don’t know if there is a legal/official way to do so. And I haven’t had a particular series recommendation that I found compelling enough to use webnovel dot com. From what I can tell they’ll host fan translation, plagiarism, stolen or pirated content, and original stories posted by the author without disclosing what is what (like you tube ten years ago)

                  I read banned books

Ah this post brings me back to when the forums got overrun by Chinese free accounts that could barely speak English and spammed threads with hundreds if not thousands of replies about Chinese web novels. Good times :)

@Jon-Mitchell Stay away from Wuxia novels as a reocmmendation. Damn they get long and ahve the Dragon Ball formula.

                          But back to recommendations.

I like (and forgive me my generic plot posts, I am really bad at those)

"Genius Doctor - Black Belly Miss"
Medical Genius gets reincarnated in the body of a girl which gets mistreated by others (and as a happy sidenote, not by her family, usually those are involved in such works. She is a little speech impaired, a genius and best of all free from any scrupel to furhte rher interests and get back at anyone who wants to harm her new family.

                          "Gourmet of Another World"
Guy gets reincarnated (although not sure if really reincarnated or not, as he never mentions it specifically) in a world were martial artists cultivate. He has a game like system which wants to elevate him to be the god of cooking. And his dishes that he makes helps others to cultivate and with every sold dish he also levels up.

                          "Release that Witch"
Guy gets reincarnated into the body of a prince in the middle of the fight for the throne. Problem is he is in the sticks as the previous owner of his body was just nothing more as a frivolous idiot. There he mets a witch in particular which he saves from execution and furthermore he develops his land together with her and a even further increasing number of witches. Trying to chatter the prejudice about them and using their abilities to further his goal. Oh and the biggest enemy is the church (and his brothers).

As said I am really not good at making brief overviews of the plot. But you can easily find those novels and if you like them after 10 chapters chances are you will like them even further down the road. Black belly Miss should be entirely free on Qidian, Gourmet of another world is free for the first book and Release that witch till chapter 44. But I can be wrong as I started to read them at a time where the translations were entirely free.

I've never seen a Chinese novel be sold in volumes, which is what would make J-Novel money. If you can't sell it in volumes (from what I've seen, they're all just chapters in a web novel) then there's no money to be made, other than in subscriptions. So point out some series that aren't already available in English in an official manner and is sold in volumes in China, then possibly there's something to talk about (though I doubt JNC will ever venture in non-Japanese content).

@LegitPancake This isn't entirely correct. Take for example the novels Legend of the Sun Knight, 1/2 Prince and Lord of the Mysteries -The Most High-. All three novels are sold in volumes. So there are some chinese (in this case taiwanese) novels that would be available for making money out of them.

@davidd0065 Wuxiaworld sells ebooks of their works. They are currently releasing Korean novels (like Second Coming of Gluttony) as well.

Release That Witch is truly great, one of my all time favourites. The translation is a bit rough but still readable, though getting hold of it legally is a costly pain which I ... Uh... Totally did really honest...

@jon-mitchell wuxiaworlds kinda like Crunchyroll. They were translating illicitly, but now most if not all of their content is licenced I believe

@shipteaser This is correct. They have legitimate licensing agreements with Chinese and Korean publishers. Now if only they would sell their ebooks directly instead of on Amazon...
