Simple question, which one of the two manga adaptions of 'Kusuriya no Hitorigoto' do you like more and why (please write a reason)? Which one would you like to see getting more licensed.

      1). Kusuriya no Hitorigoto

Also, if this series ever will get an anime adaption, which art style would you prefer?

@wellwisher Haha, both manga adaptions are based on the light novel, if you are asking this.

@Claire-Lilly I personally like the first manga out of the two definitely more. The art style of the artist is very pretty! But the other manga adaption is good too, just the art style isn't really to my liking.

Oh never saw this thread. The first manga version in OP's first picture has been licensed in English by Square Enix. I was supposed to release August 2020 but apparently was pushed back to December. https://www.amazon.com/dp/1646090705

I'd prefer if one of them follows after the Web Novel which is more story driven and a lot more gruesome. But I guess that won't sit well with light stomach readers so both the manga went towards the light novel instead which is more forgiving and romantic based. I'm a little disappointed but is still glad that they actually made two manga out of it. That way, the story has more exposure to fund the author so they can keep writing.

@Meimi Thanks for the info that there's a licensed Indonesian version! Going back in the middle of pandemic really made me miss a lot of things 😳

Yes, both manga appear to follow the light novel. They don't exactly take different perspectives, but they each adapt the material a little differently. Notably, the second version covers the ground more quickly, and it does this with some clever choices about when to conflate into a single scene moments that occur separately in the other versions. (For example, explanations or deductions that Maomao spells out after a case concludes in the other versions sometimes occur as internal monologue in the midst of events in the second manga.)

I think both manga versions are lovely, and appreciate that they look so distinct. I'm especially intrigued by the slender, almost lanky appearance of the characters in the second version, which in my mind almost looks more "realistic," if that makes sense.

In case anyone was interested but not aware, Square Enix is currently publishing the first of the two manga versions in English under the title The Apothecary Diaries. And of course, the LN is available right here on J-Novel... ;-)
