      Device: Samsung Galaxy A12
      OS: Android 11

      Browser: Firefox for android (100.2.0)

      Menus won't open. At all.

This effectively renders the forum unusable from the device in question.

I tried to submit a bug report to nodeBB, but they want a bunch of information I don't have any way of getting:

<!-- ++ Please include the following information when submitting a bug report ++ -->

      - **NodeBB version:**
      - **NodeBB git hash:**
      - **NodeJS version:**
<!-- (to find your git hash, execute `git rev-parse HEAD` from the main NodeBB directory) -->
      - **Installed NodeBB Plugins:**
<!-- (to find installed plugins run ./nodebb plugins) -->
      - **Database type:** mongo, redis, or postgres
      - **Database version:**
      <!-- `mongod --version`, `redis-server --version`, or `postgres --version` -->

@piisfun It could be the Android version, or phone perhaps. It works fine here when I checked (Android 12, Firefox 100.2.0, Galaxy A52)

I am having a similar issue with Safari on my iPhone, but for me it’s intermittent. Sometimes all the menus work perfectly. Other times I’ll load the page and menus don’t work at all. Reloading the page sometimes resolves the problem and sometimes doesn’t.

I can reproduce what @b-scot-morgan mentioned on all the mobile devices I’ve tried: Galaxy S21 (12 - any current Firefox variant), iPhone 12 (15.4 - any browser), Pixel 4a5G (12 - any current Firefox variant), Galaxy A71 5G (11 - any current Firefox variant).

For the android devices above I wasn’t able to reproduce the issue on any chromium browsers like Bromite, Brave, Edge, etc.

I’m seeing this problem on my iPad Pro 9.7” but not on iPhone. Both on latest iOS 15.5.

On the iPad, pressing the menu and user buttons don’t show the sidebars.
Yesterday there was a brief period when the menus worked again on iPad but it’s stopped working again since.

Edit: Arrgh, now the iPhone doesn’t work either!

Does anyone even look at, log, or resolve these issues that are raised here? Feels like yelling into an empty void. I have the same issue too on safari.

@Orangebluelover they definitely do look at them, I've seen them resolve several things immediately after they're reported. They're a small team though, so often that doesn't mean they have time to immediately investigate a more obscure bug that isn't fixed by simply removing an option etc.

@Orangebluelover Ultimately it depends if the issue can be fixed by configuration. If the problem is the underlying forum software, even if they report it to nodeBB and it gets resolved, JNC only really updates the forum software about once a year (which just happened) so if the issue is an underlying problem with nodeBB, it could take a while to see a resolution here.

If you don't mind it having to scroll to get to it, I can provide a user fix later today for that (had to do something similar).

It’s extremely annoying on iOS. The hamburger and profile/notifications buttons just stop working, and I have to clear my chrome cookies multiple times a day (and re log-in) in order to get them to work again. I really hope this is being worked on.

FWIW, regarding non-working buttons there is an issue now on NodeBB. It says desktop/Firefox, but I presume it's the same cause as in iOS.

Edit: there is a fix already, and should be available on version v12.0.4 of nodebb-theme-persona. Can it be upgraded?

Edit 2: mentioned it on Discord.

                                Edit 3: didn't work.

So, to answer your issue, that banner isn't actually supposed to go away, but rather make the reply button always visible.

If you don't want it there, add this to your "Personal CSS," which is found under settings:

/*Remove floating Post Controls-take up too much vertical space*/
                                  .topic div.topic-header {position:static;}

FYI, we've updated the software again to the newest versions we could find, but it seems many (most?) problems still persist. Unfortunately, we just need to keep working on it. Sorry for all the inconvenience.

@myskaros yeah, the side panels are still wonky on my iOS devices.

This morning I was happy that the side panels worked. But after exiting via “Done” and coming back to the forum it stopped working again.

I wonder if it is due to some server-side caching problem.

I'm not having any obvious issues with the menus on Android, but the red button to view the thread while writing a reply appears only briefly after pressing the reply button then vanishes. The only way to review what you're replying to (other than quoting) without cancelling the reply is to hit refresh and hope you don't lose what you've typed.

I have also noticed that the forum side-bar does not open on my mobile device, while it works when the desktop browser is in mobile mode or the mobile browser in desktop mode

                                          Desktop: Firefox 100.0.2 Manjaro Linux
Mobile: OnePlus 9 Pro (LineageOS 18.1) on Firefox 100.3.0 Stable from Google-Playstore

PS: i am not logged in on the mobile browser

Beyond the general menu problems, I'm having a particular issue with the search bar on mobile - in that I can't actually press "enter" and search for things. Seems like the base setting changed from "titles and posts" to just "title," so I have to type in key words that are in the title or else a thread won't pop up. And since I can't press enter, I can't tweak the search settings to include posts, or filter by categories, or anything else that's part of Advanced Search.

I know JNC doesn't code the forums, but am I the only one experiencing this? It's basically killed my mobile forum experience beyond looking at unread posts; if I want to look up an older conversation I have to go to my computer. (And even then the base search is still always just "titles," so I have to search, then immediately change my search parameters because no I don't remember most of the dang titles, I just remember the actual post content.)
