so I can't imagine the approximately $.50 is the sticking point on taking PayPal...there must be other operational costs in working with them (maybe automation already in place for Stripe just doesn't work for PayPal? maybe doing accounting is a bigger hassle? ) who knows?

You're looking at the domestic transfer cost for paypal I think. International cost I believe is 3.9% plus a fixed fee that depends on the originating currency. I don't know what JNC's breakdown of sales is for domestic US customers vs international customers, but it could result in a sizable difference. Stripe doesn't seem to indicate they have a different higher cost for non-domestic transactions.

It is definitely on our list of things to investigate, but we cannot provide any ETA for when a change might come.

          @myskaros

I would have used SEPA Payments today and won't subscribe because I have no need for a credit card.
Payment Providers support multiple payment options for this exact use case, so please use them.
Please think about your EU customers.
Credit Cards are really rare among young germans for example.

As a german my preferred Option would be giropay, but SEPA is not only for germans, but for all the EU... so SEPA seems better for you.

@genkidama Thanks for the suggestion. We won't be enabling SEPA for a while, because it will require some significant changes to our backend. The reason being that, as Stripe (our payment processor) explains, the is a "delayed payment" processor, meaning that you can't instantly pay for things using it. This means that if we enabled it without changes to our systems, users could purchase coins, then cancel the payment (or the payment could bounce) and get free coins. So we need to implement delayed receipt of coins and subscription on our platform, which will take a while.

Actually, it is not. I had a credit card from my 18th birthday onwards, and most banks give you one for free as long as you are a student or in training. And if you don't get one for free, it's mostly €10 a year. When I was at university, nearly every student had one. That applied to friends in job training and unemployed friends even though they have to plan with a tight budget.

Sure, below 18 you won't get one, but that's another story.

To be fair, I must say, many people in Germany just fear credit cards since they are not as safe as other payment options and that you don't have a need for a credit card inside the EU.

As a german my preferred Option would be giropay, but SEPA is not only for germans, but for all the EU... so SEPA seems better for you.

Wouldn't be PayPal be even better than that, as you can use this worldwide and more customers use that inside the EU instead of a credit card?

Now that the app allows in-app purchasing, could you buy an itunes or Google Play gift card somewhere, add it as credit to your account, and then use it to buy books in the app? Subscribing is still not an option in the app just yet, however.

@LegitPancake I did neglect to update this thread because I forgot about IAPs, but yes, the in-app purchases should open up a whole new avenue of supported payment methods for users.

For example, I can go to https://play.google.com/store/paymentmethods (in the US) and redeem a gift card, or add a PayPal account (in addition to CC). Maybe some European users can share what they see there as an option.
I even know a person who does these mechanical turk-like tasks (filling out surveys I think?) in exchange for Google Play store credit, which could also be used.

Sure, here you go, infos from the German play store.

(put it on spoiler tags since It's so big):

                    spoiler

                    To translate the stuff:

                    • pay via your mobile service provider (probably per monthly invoice if you have a plan)

                    • Credit / Debit Card (maybe even some that don't work with stripe)

                    • PayPal

                    • Klarna is a German Service Provider for payment probably only usable in Germany (actually you entrust the payment with said company, and you have to pay them back the amount they paid)

                    • Paysafecard (don't know if you have them in your countries, but we can get "gift cards" that are not traceable at patrol stations or supermarkets)

                    • and the classic normal google play gift card which you can also get in every supermarket or in online shops

@Qeeh I lived in CH for quite a while so I'm familiar with paysafe, especially the potential for underage people to buy them at the store like I did ;)

Thanks both of you for the lists, it seems in general for Europe users on Android users can now also use:

                          • PayPal
                          • Paysafe
                          • Google Play Cards
                          • Google Opinion Rewards

                          And in Germany specifically:

                          • Klarna

Yeah, the gift cards for questionable purchases without age verification. ;)

Still, do not forget the credit card option from Google. This could work for cards that are not allowed by Stripe. At least, I sometimes read in this forum, that some cards don't work with it (though anyone with one of those should just get a globally accepted one instead and just terminate their old card).

@Qeeh That was with the 3D secure issue, which should be solved. But yes, feel free to try a card there too, except that if you pay on the site we get a bigger cut of the payment

@chocolatkey hell, I would never give google my payment details. I only use Google Play Card's ;)

Also, I like to support my hobbies directly if I can, for exactly that reason, why should I give Google money that is for another company when I can ensure it.

It's the same with PayPal. Stripe probably has the lowest fees, so I pay via credit card directly. I just wrote that sentence for people that would like to support you but have no other way to do it than that. :)
