This topic keeps getting new votes from time to time. We're up to 67 now.

I actually "lost hope" of this LN ever getting licensed and I started taking a look at the fan TL. But I'm crying just thinking back to all the wrong Italy's references 😢

A new volume was released recently for this series btw: "Campione EX". As I understand it it's a volume to wrap up things(?) after the last volume of the main series.

Updated the volume count in the first post, too.

I really enjoyed the anime so this got my vote awhile back. JNC is a bit lacking in urban fantasy / secret world LNs so this would be a nice change of pace from all the isekai.

Giving this another bump/vote as the author has started Part 3 in the series which features a new protagonist plus the previous two. The new series is titled Campione! Lord of Realms and the general synopsis or whatever definitely ties the series all together as a sequel so beware of spoilers for anyone regarding the original.

@Aruseus493 You wouldn't believe how much I cried when I saw this a few days ago. Campione is not dead, thanks Takedzuki-sensei!!!!!!!!

Campione is probably my favorite LN series of all time, it just struck all the right strings for me. It's a shame it never got licensed, I wouldn't think it twice before preordering all the volumes if it was possible.

@paulnamida Campione is what got me into the LN space. I saw the anime the year it came out and ended up discovering Bak-Tsuki while losing my mind about that half-assed ending.

Now LN's have become my second highest cost for entertainment. It would probably be first if I was interested in more of the genre's but there are some books that I'm never going to like no matter what.

@jampodevral At least you had it a bit better, imagine having read the novels and loved them to bits, get extremely excited with the anime adaptation announcement, then the first episode drops and it's some kind of abridged version of the the whole 3rd volume. I cried. Then I tried to convince myself that it wasn't that bad and they were just trying to get the prequel volume out of the way and use it as a bit of infodump. I couldn't get worse, right? The butchering that ensued had me crying blood. To this day I don't forgive Studio Diomedea for that. It could've been great, it could've been the next big hit had hey just done it justice. But life is what it is, and we'll never get to see the Monkey King arc or the King of the End arc animated. I will never recover from such a loss, but at least fan translators were kind enough to keep the novels alive in English, so I can keep going for another day.

I guess I can at least be thankful that it introduced more people to this amazing series and the LN scene in general. Thanks for giving this wonderful series a chance, despite the shortcomings of the anime!

@paulnamida In my experience, it's almost always a bad idea to watch an anime adaptation of something you've already read. Some adaptations are better than others, but they pretty much always screw up something, and it's usually pretty frustrating to watch them (there are exceptions, but they're definitely exceptions). And regardless of how good an adaptation is, it's also very rarely the case that they go for more than a season or two, because the primary reason they exist is simply to be an advertisement for the source material. So, even if Campione! had faithfully adapted each book in turn, you probably still wouldn't have gotten most of what you wanted adapted in the anime.

Now, I've discovered plenty of great LN series thanks to anime - including Campione! (which, if anything, just shows that those anime are serving their purpose) - and I've enjoyed bad adaptations before I've read the source material. But if I've read the source material first, then the odds are very low that I'm going to like the anime. Anime studios typically do a better job adapting books that Hollywood does, but the result is still consistently worse than the source material.

In any case, unfortunately, in the case of Campione!, the very fan translation that you were able to read is probably one of the big reasons that the series has never been licensed, since they actually managed to translate the entire thing rather than just a few books, which makes the profitability of licensing it that much more questionable. Unfortunately, this is one of many series that I've discovered because of anime and would love to see licensed which will likely never be licensed. We can still hope though.

@Kalessin We can definitely keep hope. DxD of all things got licensed despite having a full fan translation. That was one I had totally written off from ever being licensed. But somehow it happened. I don't know who's gonna get cursed by that monkey paw but I sincerely thank them.
