      Mushoku Tensei

      Publisher: MF Books (Media Factory)

      Synopsis:

A 34-years-old NEET otaku is chased out from his house by his family. This virgin, plump, unattractive, and penniless nice guy found that his life are going down the path to an end, He then recalled that his life could actually be much better if he can get over the dark history of his life. Just when he was at the point of regret, he saw a truck moving at fast speed, and 3 high-schoolers in it's path. Mustering all strength he had, he tried to save them and ended getting run over by the truck, quickly ending his life. The next time he opened his eyes, he is already reincarnated to a world of sword and magic as Rudeus Greirad. Born to a new world, a new life, Rudeus decided that, "This time, I'll really live my life to the fullest with no regret!". Thus start the journey of a man yearning to restart his life.

My Thoughts and Why I Want This Series:

I figured to kick off this new sub-forum, I'd go with the classic most requested and one of the most well known Light Novels in the community. Mushoku Tensei I would call if I'm allowed to be so brazen, a masterpiece. This story has three main themes to the story. They are Second Chances, Coming of Age, and Family.

Rudeus is no saint. He is a human being that has expressed many flaws and did not live respectfully. However, upon reincarnating, this is a story of him turning his life around from what it was before. He strives to be a good person and never give up halfheartedly. This is about Rudeus becoming a better person. He was never meant to be a perfect human being in the beginning.

With true reincarnation, Rudeus starts over as a child. Going through his life, he has to truly learn what it is to become an adult. From realizing his shortcomings, to taking on responsibility for his actions. This is his life's tale and growing up is a major aspect of the series.

One of Rudeus' greatest mistakes was how he dealt with his family in life. This is a story that solidifies his new bonds with his new family. They love each other, they fight with each other, and their family expands. With different opinions, beliefs, and behaviors, they are all still family which is important for the protagonist.

Mushoku Tensei is one of the defining series of this generation. It helped kick-off the Isekai trend which floods the market today. Mushoku Tensei's rise to fame started with the web novel and is still one of the most requested Light Novel series ever. I would love to be able to buy a professionally translated release of Mushoku Tensei's Light Novel which expands the story with more volumes and details. The genres Mushoku Tensei focuses on would be Drama, Action, Adventure, and Romance. This is a truly new world that's fleshed out with its own history. We explore the continents and countries as well as the history and conflicts that influence the world. There is also drama and romance. Characters get into conflicts that hurt them on deeply emotional levels that even can drive the reader to tears. At the same time, the characters develop with each other and we learn how they love each other. It's truly a wonderful series.

      Volume 1 Cover

In addition to all the heartfelt reasons, the artist for the series is really damn good. The characters are all unique in their own way and have absolutely wonderful clothing designs.

      • Roxy Volume 1 Example
      • Sylphy Volume 1 Example
      • Adults Volume 1 Example
      • Uniform Designs
      • My Favorite Clothing Designs (Potential Spoilers)

I remember reading the manga and I do have the it on my read list since it's been completely fan-translated. But I'd certainly prefer to support the author if there's an official translation available.

Worth noting that the manga adaptation is already licensed by Seven Seas, they've gotten 7 volumes out.

Whoever said nothing's impossible never tried slamming a revolving door.

Ive heard so much about this series. Frankly, I find it so sad that so many people have already read this series by illegal fan translations, and that most of those people would probably not read it again were it licensed.
I really hope J-Novel can get this one, as I would really like to read a professional translation in a timely manner. I would be surprised if Seven Seas didn’t offer to print JNC’s ebooks of this as they already have the manga.

The original translations were done by so many different people that it's a miracle the WN even completed fan-translations. I'd love for some actual quality translations and I do think a lot of people would read this series again if given the opportunity for a better version.

This is too a series I would love to read and support. I really like the manga and it would be great to get the LN version too.
Even though the Protagonist is a pervert xD But whatever, the world building is good :3

This is one of my favorite stories I've read so far.
I even re-read it for a second time a year after the first time i read it, and it was still just as enjoyable.

I completely agree with @Aruseus493 in that most people would read it again if it had proper editing. There's also the LN exclusive short stories and volume 7 which is completely original. There's plenty of material to be a huge sell even to WN readers.

The best isekai deserves a proper license.

I also agree, my personal select places this up there with Shield Hero. The web novel was a good read, regardless of the translation quality. and there is always new content in the LN that was not in WN versions. Just look at Smartphone, there the last couple volumes have had almost half of each volume being LN only content.

Same as the other, it was a great WN even with the sometime bad translation, and i would definitly buy it, to read a good translation, get the LN only part and support a serie in my top 3 so far

@legitpancake That's not completely true. if they are truly fans of this series they'd probably buy it to support the artist. I buy lots of comics/blurays to simply support the artist themselves even if I already read the series online somewhere else, and I know many ppl do that too.

Is this title any more possible now with the Kadokawa precedent?

@aruseus493 How so? I've heard that every Kadokawa LN gets licensed by Yen Press, cuz they have some sort of contract.
Tho I really hope that JNC gets this project. Specially since the Light Novel is a little deviated from the WN

In my opinion, this is one of the best Light Novels in the Isekai genre. Even though the protagonist seems OP, he has his psychological issues from his past life, and it is quite interesting to see how he overcomes them.

@themidsummerneetaku very recently as in 2 days ago JNC announced that they have started working with Kadokawa, they announced Kokoro Connect, and Amagi Brilliant Park, so now YP doesn’t have as much of a strangle hold on the Kadokawa market

Also there isn’t a “contract” per say, it’s that Kadokawa owns the majority share of YP.

Sorry but J-Novel Club does not publicly comment on any potential licensing decision or acquisitions.
